I never thought much about the Byrd's til I got older. Now, I think there's a real argument for them as the most signicant American band of the 60 and 70s. Mcguinn, Crosby, Clark, Gram Parsons, Hillman, and Clarence White. That's a crazy amount of talent to go through one band.
Very influential group of that time. I loved 8 Miles High when it came out.

Hillman says he was offered the job of bassist for the Byrd's, and accepted immediately even though he had never played bass in his life. When he showed up to join the band he was scares to death..turns out none of them had any clue how to play electric music. Credits that for their sound being so different.

They came from folk backgrounds didn't they?

I know. Young is nowhere to be found on that song. It was pretty early I think.

off my favorite album of theirs.
Man, I love Neil Young, but Stephen Stills was the better singer, and guitarist. He started a band when CSN were starting to hate each other. Manassas. His guitar work on the song 'The Treasure' is fabulous...

Whenever I think of the Byrds, I think of David Crosby, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. My favorite song of their's is Wooden Ships. Go to youtube and type in Wooden Ships CSNY Lyrics. Listen and follow the lyrics.

I look at it as an anti-war song about future nuclear destruction. There is mention of wondering if the "purple berries" are safe to eat, an opposing soldier asking which side won, and about "silver people on the shoreline." I think this refers to men in silver hazardous suits . You and Gramps listen and see what you think.

It has been many years since I have listened to their music. I forgot how good they were. Thanks 72

I always liked Stills. A song that Buffalo Springfield did that I first heard in college , on an album recorded by Fever Tree , which was a band out of Houston was "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing." Sometime, when you have nothing better to do, listen to both versions on youtube. Great song.

dream inducing song, man.

I hate coffee. I drank some yesterday for some stupid reason. Now I know what a method head feels like. Couldn't sleep last night. And this was after a klonopin and three beers.

I can't drink coffee except in the morning. It jacks me up. Some guys I know, drink it all day. If I did that, I wouldn't sleep for a week.
