Official practice thread -- Practice No. 4 (3/13)

Every practice so far I've seen them really getting on to Hurd hard about getting low and making him redo drills. He has amazing vision. Anyone worried this will take away from his vision? I mean I know you have to have a certain pad level but they have him staring at the ground in every drill to be considered low enough.

They better be careful about changing his running style too much. Eric Dickerson , Adrian Peterson and Eddie George all come to mind. This kid was great as an upright runner and his instincts will tell him when to lower his pads, like right before he gets hit. I hope the coaches don't dwell on this too much.

There is a difference between being upright while running and being upright at the point of attack.

From what I've seen the coaches are getting on him during contact drills for being too high. That would definitely be a problem.

However, in the pad drill, he wasn't being critiqued for being too high. He was being critiqued for foot placement and not properly stepping through to maintain balance and speed.

Specifically it was Hurd not properly placing his right foot to deliver a blow and wasn't stepping through with his left leg high enough. And that's fair. Because him trucking over Tennessee High Schoolers isn't the same as taking on SEC DBs. He needs to learn proper foot placement, follow-through and staying low at the point of attack to lessen the chance for an injury.

Ga RB or a Ga TE. Maybe a WR? Regardless, it was probably a UGA player because about a dozen of them got hurt in that game. I think they were blaming the turf afterwards?

It was GA RB Keith Marshall but it was a passing play. Sutton just rolled underneath him. It didn't even look like a play that should've cause injury. Here's the longer shot since the close up has already been posted.

Last year the field at Neyland started resembling a ratty chicago street after a bad winter.

may have been mentioned but maggitt was used on the dline today.

Defensively, with some heavy instructional work going, the Vols lined up with an early four-man front of Vereen, Danny O'Brien, Owen Williams and Curt Maggitt, while A.J. Johnson and Jalen Reeves-Maybin served as the two linebackers.

Maggitt off the edge could make a deadly pass rush
