Official Republican Presidential Debate August 23, 2023

Desantis just isn't anything to write home about at all. Despite this, I think he did well enough to remain in second. I could see Haley gaining some momentum and surpassing Pence or possibly even Vivek after tonight. She is by far the most electable candidate the Republicans currently have in this race. Burgum did really well, I could see him gaining some ground.

Christie and Pence are just... meh. Bland politicians. Although I got a kick out of Christie calling out that dumb UFO question at the end.

Assuming the nominee is Trump, are any of these folks (except obviously Pence) going to help the ticket as VP?

Vivek would be a second outside DC choice. Good or bad? He might be too much of a scene stealer for Trump's ego.

DeSantis might help with FL..... or hurt. Trump won FL narrowly but is pretty strong there.

Haley might bring some suburban women in, leans a little to the middle to be on the same page with Trump though. We won SC handily in 2020.

Scott brings race but God, a walking DC cliche. His manner is more pro politician than even Pence.

I'm skeptical that Burgan or Hutchinson bring much to the ticket.

What do you guys think?

If Trump is the main draw, then Nikki is the best choice for VP. She could draw some of the suburban moms that have issues with Trump. Whether she would accept if asked is a completely different matter.

If Trump is the main draw, Biden wins again. Too many people like me who will not vote for him under any circumstance. Third party here I come.

Yes they’re called looney libs. They are emotional wrecks. They’ll gladly pay $6 for gas and double for everything else to protect their feelings.

Yo, I voted for DJT twice, but I am a realist. The man will not, can not and should not be nominated to be the standard bearer for our party. If he is we lose, period.

I think that's the smart political move for Trump and Haley. They may not respect each other but they need each other. Haley needs Trump more than Trump needs Haley, but at some point I hope he realizes there's elections for the GOP beyond his own.

If Trump isn't the nominee, third party here he goes (very possibly) and Biden wins again.

If you truly are a realist you surely see Trump's lead for the GOP nomination is all but insurmountable.

So let's be real: is it worth it to you to not vote for Trump? Really?

I am really hoping he does not get the nomination. It will be an uphill climb for him to win the whole thing.

I think Vivek gets the biggest bounce out of tonight. Haley improves her position substantially. And DeSantis picks up a little steam. Need to narrow down to one Trump challenger in a hurry if someone is going to knock him off the top of the hill.

I am leaning DeSantis, but Haley was impressive tonight.

Have to say that Vivek looks sleek and has shiny paint but I’m not sure how much is under the hood.

DeSantis still comes across a bit “small” like a pothole fixing governor but I think he threaded the needle tonight on being the one candidate most acceptable to the people voting for all the other candidates. Ron doesn’t have that easy stage presence Trump has. He doesn’t look presidential yet.

What seemed most clear after today though was that nobody on stage is going to dethrone Trump quite yet. Game is to stay in 2nd and see if Trump is eligible to run com February.

I hear all these conservatives talk about they want an option besides trump. Last nights debate and the immediate reactions prove they don’t. It’s pathetic how the gop has become trumps lap dog.
