Official Republican Presidential Debate August 23, 2023

My issue with political debates is that the time the candidates are allotted to answer questions aren't sufficient to fully frame and answer the questions. Most political issues aren't black and white. There are shades of gray that require explanation that can't be delivered in the allotted time frame. Also, the person that is ultimately determined by the press to be the winner of the debate is usually whomever delivered the most clever catch phrase of the night. I don't give a damn about clever slogans.
1000%.

Go watch the debates between mental greats. It was a discussion. Vidal vs Buckley. Chomsky vs Foucalt. There was a dialogue and time to comprehend, digest, and respond.

The modern multiway political debate is packaged for short attention spans and sloganeering. Truly an embarrassment to our republic.

What were his policies? I saw 4 years of knee jerk reactions and temper tantrums with no overall plan.

I saw the best 401k growth ever, my dollar going A LOT farther, reasonable gas prices, lower taxes, an attempt to secure the border, etc etc etc.

If the trump presidency was your best 4 year growth period ever you must have not been investing during Clinton and Obama. Both crushed.

Yes because presidents have magic wands that create immediate (not lagged) and massive economic repercussions. And Clinton was an economic mastermind as well as Obama. Ok, sure. Lol

Lol. They absolutely do. Look at all the abysmal decisions dementia joe has made to double down on crushing the economy.

I'm curious if anyone here talked about Pete being too inexperienced and unqualified to run in 2020 (fair critiques, btw), and are now fans of Vivek. If so, why? What has changed for you?

Vivek has been a successful chief executive, Pete not so much.

Thanks. Makes sense, though Pete had executive experience in the public sector as mayor. Different, sure, but one could argue better experience for job they're after. That's not a disagreementwith your perspective, just my thoughts on there not being a significant difference between them from a qualification/readiness pov.

A person that admittedly wants to be a career politician is the last person you want to ever be a politician.

More or less agree, but I believe there are a few good ones out there who do want to serve for the right reasons. Pollyannaish? Probably.
