Per Rucker. Makes a good point.

@wesrucker247: If I'm Cuonzo, and I coach #Vols to a run in this tournament and get a lateral offer, I'm gone. JMO.

It would be a smart move on his part. Get out while the getting is good because next year is going to be rough and may well be his doom depending on how the season goes. At another place, he gets a fresh start and less stress. Plus not being in the SEC means he might get a tourney bid for once that isn't a play-in or NIT. He'd definitely have a better shot in a lot of other conferences.

That'd be great scenario and we could go after Pearl.

It would probably make everyone happier including him (but only if Pearl is a legit option) and with his latest comment about 'true fans' it may well be what he's thinking.

Omg. Get the **** over it!! Pearl is not ever gonna coach here again!! Sorry to ruin your wet dream.

Pearl or no Pearl, Zo isn't the answer. period. He's done absolutely nothing to give me optimism that he's the guy for this program. Nada.

A couple wins in this tourney only gets us another year or two of mediocrity and delays the inevitable unless some other school does us a favor and hires him away from us (doubtful, imo).

Hate to say it, but it's not gonna make me mad one bit if we lose vs Iowa. Zo is the basketball equivalent of dooley. If you can't see it you're blind. Cut ties and move on whether BP is available or not. I'd have the same opinion regardless of us getting a freaking play-in game.

So why does almost every other respectable sports analyst in the country, besides those yellow journalists like Clay Travis, agree that it would be a huge mistake to fire Coach Martin?

Sorry but I tend to take the opinions of posters on VN with that of a 14 yr old girl that had 12 boyfriends last week.

Links?

I've said it once and I'll say it again! I remember at the first of the season (possibly earlier) someone (possibly Rucker) on the radio saying that Cuonzo doesn't need the Tennessee or any other major program job. Said he would be just as happy coaching at a mid-major as he would be at high profile school like Tennessee.

I wish I could find a podcast of where this was said? I just remember hearing it and that's when I knew we needed a change!

That sounds like he's starting to rather be an assistant and being a head coach somewhere is a bonus.

How many analysts ever say to fire any college coach over W/L?

Besides, it's just their opinion, and it's no different than anyone here. It takes zero skill to be a "sports analyst".

Wes forgot to add the second part of that. The part where the best replacement we can beg to come here is a 13 game/yr winner from someplace like La Tech, because of the looneys running the asylum.

I'm just saying what so many of us are thinking. You know the next several years this program will sink back into mediocrity and be irrelevant under CCM. Maymon, McCrae, Stokes, Richardson---all gone. No talent left. Martin hasn't shown the ability to get the best out of his players this year---and we actually have some talent. Just wait until next year. Sigh

People seem to forget that we have an injured 5 star guard sitting on the bench and was never 100% this season and stokes I think should stay and also we were picked to finish 11th in the conference when ZO first got here for a reason. We seem to forget even when Bruce was here we were inconsistent as we are this year. We'd beat Kansas and then lose to georgia or USC or college of charleston. Also when bruce first got here, we had chris lofton, juwan smith and other really talented guards. Also, the transfer of Trae really hurt us because we had inconsistent pg play all year and it sounds like an excuse but it's real big reason why we were inconsistent, the pg position is what glues things together and is key to have good pg play. There I got off my soap box
