Official Tennessee at Georgetown Game Thread 6:30pm EST ESPN

Were we favored to win?

Last time I checked GT was ranked #20 and TN was unranked. Plus we played it on their floor which is a ten point advantage. I saw GT play # 1 indiana to a tie in regulation on IU's floor. They are a really good team. This game really gives me hope.

GT should have blown us away. We are a very poor offensive team.

Didn't make the tournament last year after 6 straight appearances, reluctance to go to zone defense when short-handed athletically, and draws up a 3 point play when only needs 2 points tonight. I will give Cuonzo a chance but if we don't make the tourney this year that is all I need to see with Cuonzo. I like Cuonzo, but his game management stinks and I have serious doubt about his ability to coach X's and O's.

Sorry to disappoint but without Maymon we are an nit team.

Good review. Anybody else disappointed in stokes? I thought after an offseason he would be more dominant.

I am. I thought he was going to look like one of the best college players in the nation this year. It's VERY early, but he doesn't look like a lottery pick so far.

UT will see lots more zone after this laughably bad offensive performance. Those last two shots were embarrassing: That's what bad teams do when the pressure is on: make two passes on the perimeter and heave one up.

Are you guys telling me you didn't know that Tennessee could not shoot the ball before this game. Where have you been?

When people can't look at things logically and see that UT were underdogs without their most consistent player and lost on the road by 1 point to the 20th ranked team then they are idiots.

Excuse for an inept ability to close out the game giving yourself a chance to win.

How are people bashing Stokes in here? He barely got any touches and took <5 shots. He did well on the boards and on defense.

We beat No. 1 Kansas without 4 players in 2010 - takes scheming but that is up to the coach to overcome.

Overall that team had way better players. We used tocomplain about brian williams being soft. He would be starting on this years team. The talent right now is equal to bruce pearls first year.

No, I look at things logically when watching basketball. You'd rather fire a coach after a home loss not even halfway through his first year. I guess he was inept in sweeping Fla and beating a Vandy team that had 3 NBA draft picks last year?

Again, if you aren't a 12 year old girl with the way you overreact on everything then I imagine you react to real life situations like your hair is on fire.

Please enlighten us with your logic on our last possession down by a point with 20 seconds to play.

I'll enlighten you and tell you that if UT had made 2 of the 8 FT's (3-11 for the game) that they missed then they win and it wouldn't have come down to the final possession. A game isn't won or lost in the final possession, but I'm sure you're clueless about that too.

I read a letter the editor in the NS today *****ing about the athletic department taking money from UT academics. I can only assume the person was one of those liberal idiots that thinks that athletics keeping money they earned to pay their way out of debt is the same as taking academic funding for athletics. Never underestimate the stupidity of the American liberal.

That is a good point, often games or lost by a player taking a play off in the first half or even the first 10 minutes of a game. It has always bugged me that people especially sports tv announcers think that games are lost in the final minutes.

I'm getting trolled. This game was clearly lost on the final possession.

Teams under THE PEARL won many games by simply out hustling and out lasting the competition. They were usually in extraordinary physical condition from running the ramps at the stadium. They beat many teams who had much more talent. A team that got 2 or 3 turnovers a game because they would not let their opponent inbound the ball. How I miss that.

Definitely not lost on the last play, but you don't call a timeout to then throw up a 3 point shot when you are only down 2...stupid call.

Frustrating that we get two cracks at winning and all we can get are three point shots which gave us less than a 30% chance of hitting based on our shooting tonight. I doubt thats what CM had drawn up but come on.

Beyond sick of losing.

No, I think the troll is a person who creates a thread called "good bye cuonzo" before SEC play even begins last year and seems to take more joy in UT losing than when they win. Hey Pot, say hello to Kettle.

If you actually think Martin drew up a play for McBee to take a fall away 3 then you are even more clueless than I originally thought. Georgetown had four 6' 8" to 6' 9" guys that Golden or no other wing could get the ball past all game long. This team doesn't have a guard or a forward who can take over the game against good teams. McRae has the talent, but would rather settle for an easy outside shot.

Even if UT hits the outside shot to win the game it isn't going to solve their problem of needing a consistent wing night in and night out. With Maymon out, that is almost 13 points and 8 boards that this team is missing out on every night. It's late Nov and no one has stepped up to replace him and probably won't. Maybe you would be better off cheering for another team.

I highly doubt the play drawn up was a fall away 3 by McBee. UT had trouble getting the ball inside all night long. Every armchair coach in here kept saying drive the ball and get the ball in down low. I'd guess that Martin was saying the same thing, but when you have four 6' 8"-6' 9" guys with their arms outstretched then they created a wall.

It's late Nov not late Jan. This team is still adjusting to life without Maymon. They'll get better, but they still don't have a consistent wing. Even if they make the last shot that wouldn't solve their offensive problems on the wing.

However, they played a helluva defensive game against a good team. Make 2 FT's out of the 8 they missed and they could've won. They missed 4 straight 4 FT's at the end of the game that would've given them the lead.
