OFFICIAL Tennessee SEC Media Days thread

I would venture to say that the absence of Clowney will not make a significant difference in their defensive statistics or the w/l column by the end of the year.

Just curious, but do you actually know who they have returning? They lost 3 if their starting 4 on the DL. Clowney was a difference maker in our game. At times, we could not block him. They also lost both CB's, and it will be interesting to see if they can get good play at that position. Their offense should be good, no doubt. But I believe USC will get scored on much more this year.

Fun guessing game. Name the nine vols that can squat more than 600 lbs. Here's my guesses:

Marcus Jackson
Mac Crowder
Kyler Kerbyson
Owen Williams
Danny O'Brien
AJ Johnson
Curt Maggit
Jordan Williams
One more I can't think of off top of my head

pretty sure one of them was Riley Ferg. The Ferginator.

Coach Jones and the guys were definitely the fan favorites down there. Stayed for pictures and autographs much longer than any other teams in the first two days. There was also a good UT fan showing. It came near the amount of auburn fans there. We represented well in Hoover today.

Good pics up until the last one. Seriously, though, looks like you had a good time. :good!:

Steve Spurrier says his toughest loss was at Florida in 2001 to Tennessee, says that #Gators team was as good as the 1996 one. #SECMD14

I was there. Sitting in Florida Alumni section rooting for our Vols. Few minutes left in the game a fan turned around an pointed at me and said "you better hope you don't win".

Walking out of the stadium with a huge smile on my face some Tennessee fan with balls larger than watermelons yelled out "Why you guys so quiet?"

I high tailed it out of there and back to my home in Tampa. Great memory.

Love hearing that news about Blair

That makes my heart warm. Blair is the "X" factor at this point. If he's as advertised, then our OL is going to surprise people. They are not all guys with no experience. They will be more athletic(fast) and gritty IMO.

Blair is the final piece to success in my mind. If he is a bust, then our QBs are gonna roll right a bunch. :-(

The fact that a guy who had to face him one on one all spring calls him out as special makes new feel really good.

JONES: Alton Howard is back on our football team. He’s had one of the best off seasons of anyone.

Also spoke @ Pig totally improving his body type. Wow. That guy was chiseled last year.

I sure hope we get him for the season.

I agree. They some how found a way to trip up against AU that year. But UF destroyed every other team on the schedule.

Fade, I may have missed it but what's your take on the Florida game this year? At home in Neyland with Mischamp on the other sideline?

I think it's a toss up right now. UF can't possibly be as bad as they were last year offensively and they still have a stout defense. They always play well in Neyland unfortunately, but I do like the fact that the game is in Oct instead of the 3rd game of the year like it has been. If the Oline gels quickly and can protect Worley and create some running room for Lane and Hurd, the young receivers can make a few plays then sure, I think we can win.

I agree with this with the addition that the young team mentality after tough games at OK and at GA may play a factor. Hopefully we have real team leaders this year and tough young guys. Or, crossing fingers, play one or both of those teams real well, and have confidence and happy to be home

I don't like the "get back to a bowl game". I take that as "let's shoot for 6-6". We need to shoot for as many wins as possible. 6-6 is never ok even when we are down, but I would be happy with a bowl.

I know where you're coming from, but in reality, a 6-6 season would be a pretty good season with this schedule and new OL and DL, along with all the youth. Better days are coming. I believe it.

GO VOLS

heard a great analysis of UT football on XM this morning.

Basically said UTs schedule is brutal and no team in the country has had to replace every starter on the OL and DL in two years. Also said Butch Jones should get coach of the year if the Vols go 6-6 and go to a bowl. also said our offensive playmakers (outside of the QB position) are very good and very very young but can have an impact, although not an impact to the win total.

All in all I thought it was fair commentary.
