Official: UT hires Kim Caldwell as the new coach for Lady Vols basketball

I see the rationale I really do. It makes sense

But I hope Coach Caldwell doesn't (and Coach Sam finds a nice spot somewhere else) for the same reason that a new CEO generally cleans house when taking over. The legacy of a subperforming group has to be eradicated, even if it is not the underlings fault. Sam would be a reminder of the old guard and that can't be.

If you are the new leader, you get "your people" in place and you make they are damned good at what they do.
I am guessing that logic as much as anything, had something to do with White making the change.
I’m of this mind too there are other elite recruiters. Thank u coach Sam

Man I thought the football and men’s basketball forums were negative. I remember now why I never usually check this forum. Everyone in here is a miserable genius who would be the top AD in the country 😂. I’ll have to go back to watching the games but staying out of here. Y’all have fun (if that’s possible 🤷🏽‍♂️).
Just FYI, just like you I don't recognize most of these posters here.

That's true if the old guard was especially toxic, and if you're not desperate to keep existing players on the team. Coach Sam would provide some continuity for current players, and still has the line for potential recruits.

Reports are that all the existing players (except for Boyd) have stated in social media that they are staying. They seem to be buying into Coach Caldwell. So, yay! fo that positive development.

If you are revamping a program, make a clean break. The long term gains outweigh the short term pros and cons/

Now that's it's official.. I don't hate the hire, there alot of reasons I see that make sense and could be sold.
- reminds me of Heup stylistically, in that she runs an aggressive high octane exciting innovative offense, press defense. Young up and comer with winning history, likeable, intelligent, energetic.

I just felt there were several better candidates that could be had. Therefore have to assume she knocked the interviews out of park and really impressed DW.

I think she will endear fans soon enough but as always the key will be how quickly does she win. She definitely has star potential. But "potential" isnt the term I thought should be associated with this hire.

Oh well, time to recruit hard, hit the portal and see where what happens
I think one of the bright spots is she should be able to recruit at the high school level better than we have the last three years. We will see how well she can use the m. I much prefer this than someone who win 60/65 percent of their games with no potential to win more. We will never know who was offered if any were. Often when suspected candidates are assumed to have been offered, they just say they are not interested. That could be the case here, but I think we hired a really good coach.

That is the game she teaches and has success at the lower levels. Getting her chance at the biggest college stage on Earth hopefully she will succeed.
It will be more exciting than watching an offensive and defense that can not run sets and defend the paint or the three.

I post in here very little. But I don’t post on any forum often. I do read through all of them every few days or so and during the games. The last time I posted in here was while watching the softball postseason games last year. I guess I shouldn’t say it’s the MOST negative forum but it’s the most cliquey and unwelcoming forum and pretty damn negative during the games.

Don't care who he hired,, somebody would be
Complaining about it. If another certain person
Was hired probably would be me. You can't
Please all of the people all of the time.
One thing is for sure. The entire team will be better physical condition that the team we have seen under the last two coaches.

Fr people need a positive spin.. Kellie didn’t condition them for this style so they weren’t in it. I’m soooo curious who rises and who falls… I think it may shock a lot here

But people really need to get rid of almost anything they know about these players

Almost

this is why keeping coach Sam makes sense,,,the recruits/contacts are mostly hers anyway
And those recruits will not come and play for an unknown coach. She’s going to have to do more with less for quite some time. I just don’t see her being successful in the recruiting world just yet.

I don't know, nor have any opinion as of yet, who Kim Caldwell is other than being fairly successful in the SBC. I'll withhold judgement till she's had a fair shake. Having said that, wrt the SEC Tournament, I think if Kellie Harper had someone guarding the inbound pass, the subsequent three point shot by SCar and had won that game (like they should have) along with going to the Sweet 16 again, she would likely still be here. I don't know yet whether I approve of letting her go or not. We will see. I wish both these ladies much luck going forward.

The 2025 class was projected to be pretty darn good. Top 15 in Brooks and 2 others expected to commit by the end of this spring... As soon as she is able Kim better be in Nyla's ear and then get Finley's back on board because even as a freshman a lot of people think she is going to be a gem of that class. The Monteverde pipeline will be good.

Of course Kim needs to recruit players that fit her system. I hope her systems add half court defense as a priority when the full court press isn't working. Offensively we need some o rebounders to be ready for the 30 threes we take a game.

I want her to succeed. Is it a homerun? No. Homerun would've been a coach with final four chops and recruiting reputation. Not that there were a lot of feasible options. This is a risky hire. She could be great but there are big questions.

I also wonder if we considered Kim did we also consider Tomeika Reed from Jackson State? They were relatively competitive with UConn, had a 26-7 record and had multiple D1 years of success and getting to the tourney.

The shine the Lady Vols had has been rubbed off by Holly then Kellie. I hate it probably more than anyone does. A big name coach that is winning where they are was not coming. I didn't want another retread hire. Danny White knows what he is doing. Either get behind Ms Caldwell or go away. Negative comments not needed now. Recruits read these sites!!

do you see the list of contacts she has for the 24-25 pool...It would be dumb to let her take those contacts with her to our competitor,,and she made those contacts for TN, while recruiting for TN,,,same job, same position,,,different manager

She recruited for TN not for Kellie specifically

I remember how our roster didn't "fit" Bruce Pearls "controlled chaos" system either. What was it, 2nd year or 3rd, we were a 2 seed in the NCAAT! If she can coach, then she'll coach w what she has until she can upgrade the roster.
I am willing to cut her some slack when she beats LSU, SC, OLE Miss, Alabama, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt. Gonna be tough unless she is a great recruiter. Run and gun doesn't always work well in the SEC. Just look at Arkansas.

that is why as well to keep the familiar face to those recruits,,,if this risk pans out, they will remember who recruited them and for what college

Bingo. Running a high-octane offense does NOT make you a great Xs and Os coach (on offense). How you execute in the halfcourt when opponents slow the game down determines that, IMO.
