Official Watch Party Thread (NCAAT seeding edition)

Ron Harper Jr. had a nice game for Rutgers. Anybody remember where his Dad went to school ? I do, Miami (Ohio). Loved Harper when he was with the Cavs, not so much for the Bulls

Is there a scenario where a 2 seed is possible? Win out and make the SECT champ game I’d assume?

I don't think you even need to do that to get a 2-seed. It all depends on what everyone else does, but I think 6-1 almost certainly has you in the conversation. Maybe even 5-2 and then a SEC tournament final appearance.

would think so. I would think even a 6-1 run and an early exit from the SECT could possibly get you in depending on what everyone else does. The fourth 2 seed possibly.

The latest Matrix update Wisconsin was the top 3 seed. Losing at home to Rutgers is bad. But seeing the love these nerds have for the Big 10 I wouldn’t expect us to move past them in the matrix. Might put us neck and neck w them though. They have a lot of what should be close games coming up. Hopefully all the luck they’ve had this year has dried up and they lose several of those

Hopefully Houston loses to memphis too

Memphis helping us out by beating Houston, I assume we move over or at least neck and neck with them

Houston about to lose to Memphis. Houston can’t afford to lose many games due to their lack of schedule strength. Good for us but let’s hope Memphis loses more after this so they don’t make the tournament as well. Win-win

If we were guaranteed to finish with wins against Kentucky, Arkansas x2, and Auburn, but lose to Missouri and Georgia, would you take it? Those losses suck but I think those wins far outweigh the bad losses.

KenPom has a stat called “luck”. It’s basically the difference between their SOR and their predictive rating. It’s like a team that plays in 10 50/50 games and they end up winning 8 without actually being that much better if any than their competition. Over the last 25 years, Providence is easily the “luckiest” team of any high/mid major, according to his ratings

I’m not sure if that’s luck if it’s over a 25 year period lol. Maybe they need to rename that stat.

They will be a trendy upset pick in the NCAAT and they will deserve it. I’m not buying them as a 2 or 3-seed at all, which is what they’re trending towards with all of these wins. They’re a fine team, but I just can’t see them making a run.

Ok I gotcha.
Some of that is definitely not actually luck. Over time some of that is clearly due to coaching. Providence is not in that category. Providence is 9-0 in games 5 points or less. Statistically that’s improbable. They have been lucky.

They probably are more in line with a 5 or 6 seed currently but it would be difficult to deny them a 3 seed with the wins. They do have a tough schedule to finish. Villanova x2, Xavier, Creighton, Butler. So they could easily trend downwards.
