Official WBB NCAA tournament thread 2024

Not four. Six. (Fudd, El Alfi, Duscharme, Griffin, Patterson and DeBerry)
I forgot about DeBerry (easy to do, not that she would be playing if she was healthy anyway). Missing Fudd, Ducharme and Griffin are huge. Patterson didn't show out much last year, but she was still a top 5 recruit, and El Afi was their size. Anyway, as much as I detest UConn, hats off to Geno for getting the most out of a rather unorthodox roster given all of the injuries and finding themselves with a shot at the FF.

Now, Tennessee circa 2000-2010, they would probably have traveled. UConn during the same and later would have traveled. South Carolina in the current era would probably travel a good bit, too. But it took 25 years of Pat and her 31 wins per year average to build the sort of traveling fans Tennessee had. Man. 31 wins a year. Dang. Anyway.
I don't think this is the big concern. There will be those teams willing to travel. It's more that much more than with MCBB, WCBB fans largely do not enjoy watching "other" teams besides their own. Even with hosting today, than the fans don't show up to watch the other teams playing in their house. And God forbid there's a first round upset...the arena will be empty for the 2nd round.

Until the general fanbase grows instead of just for individual teams, then I think hosting is really the best compromise. True, there will be some sacrificial lambs and serious home court advantage that will be the difference between winning and losing, but it is what it is.

Even with those injuries they still have a better overall roster than us, they have 2 All Americans.

Watching the Oregon State and South Carolina game. Oregon State has an impressive style of play. It’s a pro system. I believe this is the style of basketball that Tennessee coaching staff wants to play. They could have been more successful against the top teams but for whatever reason they sought out and signed multiple PGs from the portal that were small. One of Destinee Wells and Jasmine Powell paired with a PG and combo guard with size would have made the roster better. After a few years later seeing the struggles this is likely why you see them now adding Talaysia Cooper and Kaniya Boyd with future commits in Finley Chastain and Nyla Brooks. Fours guards with size at 5’9, 5’11, 6’2 and 6’0. Had they been able to secure Talaysia out of HS then perhaps the conversation would be different.

That's true, but they also have a completely unbalanced roster. Bunch of short guards, and Bueckers playing the 4 and undersized Edwards at the 5, with only Brady being serviceable off the bench. They would get overpowered by most teams with size, unless they shoot like Duke does (and even then, they kept it close). Tennessee should hands down be able to beat them no matter what Bueckers does.

IMO Geno should have been COY.

Someone stop this garbage! I'd run out on the floor. Someone do something. Feagin backs Beers to the floor and falls on top of her and Beers gets 3rdd foul. This is infuriating.

South Carolina is too good to be tainted by bad officiating in their favor. This is becoming tainting.

I have no idea how that foul was called. Unless she hooked Feagin, but I didn't see anything.

Beers has such a beautiful and smooth game. OSU ball movement is beautiful. Some of the ball movement to get their shooters open is simply fantastic.

At full strength, they likely win the national championship. Even without one of the injured, it would have been likely.

At full strength, I'd still take SC or full strength LSU over UConn. I think those two SEC teams would be too fast, athletic and skilled for UConn.

If Oregon State had one or two players with SEC-level speed/athleticism/rebounding, they would win this game.
Beers would be an all SEC player if she was in conference.

Having said that, it's amazing how SC can still turn it up like they do on both ends even with their best player on the bench in foul trouble.

Well, the mystery of calls in the post in this game continues into the 2nd half. May not be enough post players on either team left at the rate the refs are blowing the whistle.

SC shooting %s are abysmal for this game. They look almost bored out there right now. Officiating has been questionable but Oregon St just could NOT hit their shots in Q3. Could have been tied or up right now.

A 12pt deficit will be pretty difficult for Oregon St to overcome right now unless SC starts going even colder and Oregon St can get some big buckets.

I believe we can beat any team but no matter their flaws they still have a better roster than us. If we schedule them next year I’m looking forward to winning this time. The problem is they will be loaded.
