Official WBB NCAA tournament thread 2024

That's true, but they also have a completely unbalanced roster. Bunch of short guards, and Bueckers playing the 4 and undersized Edwards at the 5, with only Brady being serviceable off the bench. They would get overpowered by most teams with size, unless they shoot like Duke does (and even then, they kept it close). Tennessee should hands down be able to beat them no matter what Bueckers does.

"Unbalanced" or not, they still have a roster of top recruits such as Brady and Shade available. With Muhl's experience and having two All-Americans including a POY added to the younger talent, they ought to be beating everyone who doesn't have a loaded bench.

Who outside of SC and maybe LSU has this much talent?

NC State!

Tessa Johnson leads SC to the FF with 15 points. Don't think anyone would have called that.

Ore St. made things hard, but Dawn kept subbing options in and out until she found something that worked. I thought the smaller lineup worked better for them. The Beavers made got it close once Cardoso came back on the court in the 4th quarter.

I'd be worried if I were Dawn. If Texas advances, that's the kind of defensive storm that can make for a difficult evening especially if Gonzales and Holle are hitting from the outside.

SC shooting %s are abysmal for this game. They look almost bored out there right now. Officiating has been questionable but Oregon St just could NOT hit their shots in Q3. Could have been tied or up right now.

A 12pt deficit will be pretty difficult for Oregon St to overcome right now unless SC starts going even colder and Oregon St can get some big buckets.
I think officiating favored Ore St in the second half. Either way, it was woefully inconsistent.

Agree to disagree. All of their best players are sub-6 foot guards and they have zero size. No matter how good their guards are, they will get overpowered over any roster with quality players of size and the ability to make lightly contested layups and open jumpshots (i.e. teams not named Duke).

You don't consider Edwards to be one of their best players?

I do, but I also don't consider her to be a true 5. She will either get in foul trouble or get manhandled against the better 5's. Especially if she's relying on Bueckers to be the other frontcourt player.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, there is no way I would automatically rank Texas in the Top 4 of the SEC until I have watched them compete night in and night out. I actually think Texas and Oklahoma will take some time to adjust to the SEC.

Not at all. Texas is Top 3 and Oklahoma, top 5.

Azahia James averaged 16 pts
Jewel Spear averaged 13 pts.

Azahia touches the ball every possession down the court. Jewel often gets pointed to the corner or looked off by teammates.

In the SEC tourney Jewel Spear proved why she was the former ACC leading scorer as a true sophomore.

It’s not the same.

Texas is not an automatic Top 4 team in the SEC next season even with the starting PG returning and the addition of freshmen commits that haven’t played in this conference. After this performance, it’ll be interesting to see which players there might enter the portal.

Texas spanked Alabama in the last round. I don’t think they’ll have any problem, especially how physically they play.

Outside of SC and LSU, a lot of posters exaggerate just how good the SEC is.

Many SEC schools spanked Alabama. Texas beat them on their homecourt. Homecourt advantage is big in the SEC. Teams will beat Texas on their homecourt in the SEC. Just as Mississippi State beat LSU. Just as Auburn beat LSU. That does not mean either of those teams would beat the UCLA team that LSU beat, but it does show these teams are familiar with each other in this conference and know how to compete. The SEC toughness is far from exaggerated; if anything it is wrongfully discredited.
