'25 OG USC transfer Emmanuel Pregnon (Oregon)

Preparing for a kick in the nuts here. I think Pregnon would have the biggest impact on the 2025 of any portal player. The only other guys who would have made us significantly better are the Northwestern OG and maybe Branch (depending on how good our unproven guys are).

But am I overestimating Pregnon's impact? How much better is he than Karic and Umarov, really? Is he $1.5M better or whatever the number may be?

Thats always the best perspective esp with our staff and the portal

Why would it be a kick in the nuts if we don’t get him? There is another portal window.

It's mainly based on the assumption that our pass game is what it is. Nico isn't going to get much better and our WRs aren't going to create more separation. If that's true, then we'll again be relying heavily on the run game. With Sampson gone, it seems like the only way to win a playoff game is if our OL is good enough to impose their will on a playoff-caliber DL. I don't think that happens without upgrading at least a couple positions on the OL. Adding Moe and Sanders is a start, but adding Pregnon would strengthen what I presume to be our weakest link, LG. Solving the problem now would inspire a lot of confidence heading into the spring, but it's nice to know there's another window coming.

Quit being stupid.

He’d be the best OL on our roster next year and that’s not arguable.

No OL in the spring portal will even be close to this kids talent. Hardly any quality players come out in the spring portal.

Name 10 that have transferred in the spring that were studs. I’ll wait.

If he's better than anyone we have at his position on the roster, he's worth it even if it is for one year.
I'd like for it to be that simple, and maybe it is, but I get the feeling that we don't have the resources to compete with the top NIL collectives year in and year out. With all that we're losing on the defensive line, maybe the $1.5M (or whatever it is) would be better spent on someone who will be here for 2+ years. Or maybe 2025 is the year we want to make a run? I don't know, just thinking out loud.

After last year with McCoy literally visiting not long enough to grab a coffee and still choosing Tennessee hard to read into how these portal visits go.
I’ve heard Hubbs and co talk about how most portal visits are much different from HS recruit visits. The guys in the portal are here to talk business. It’s a business trip because they’ve already seen the bells and whistles of every university they’ve visited.

Nico has steadily improved this year, and there's no reason to expect a RS FRESHMAN not to improve over the offseason. We'll have an almost completely new WR room. What possible reasons do you have for your bolded assumptions?

Maybe a handful of players there that would improve our roster and that’s debatable. Most of the good players go in the first window.

The OL was average at best this year. You gotta upgrade. Make a one year investment and then move on to someone else. You can't play the "we need to put the money in to HS players or players that will be here multiple years" line, because as we've seen...they may not stay more than a year anyway. It is what it is. Bring in the best players that can help you win in the current season and evaluate everything year to year. It's all you can do with the way the rules are currently. There are no guarantees you're gonna keep anyone long term.

Most of the players overall go in the first window so yes. But we don’t need much and some of these types of pieces would be equivalent to depth that do we need.

We’re gonna be playing some young guys. And I don’t see the issue with that.

I’m an odd thinker. It’s just an assumption for one train of thought. Not attached to my beliefs or expectations. Just part of the process.

You are just making assumptions. You don’t know he would be our best OL. Stop using stupid conjecture. I am not doom and gloom like you. Maybe you should stop getting high all the time and try thinking rationally.

I bet you could find posts from him around this time last year saying that Heard would obviously be our #1 offensive lineman in 2024.
