'24 OK EDGE Danny Okoye (OK commit)

This is kind of where I’m at. No one else HS wise that we are recruiting really impresses me other than Mikel. So I hope we can get home, other than that, I’m all for using our remaining spots for transfer portal guys.

Get 2 OTs and 2 interior guys
Get a DT
Get another LB
I’d go after 2 guys in the secondary
And lastly another TE.
I was thinking this exact thing. Not sure of the number of scholarships we have to work with in light of the reductions due to the NCAA penalty, but I'd use what's remaining on portal help. Your list looks pretty good to me, but I think I'd probably push a few guys to the portal unless we lose enough voluntarily to the portal in order to add one more DT and one more DB to your list.

I’d be ecstatic with this, assuming they’re all guys who are instant impact.

So, I guess it's not looking good for getting him to visit for a gameday experience? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he all Vol until he took the OU gameday trip? Go Vols!

Yeah that was the word/rumor. OU went all-in on him during his OV there. He hasn't taken an official here and with the way OU has been playing it may be a long shot to get him to. Never say never though.

Doesn’t actually mean that. OK could’ve just blown the visit out of the water + home state school and the pitch worked
From the reports that seems most likely. There is a ton of involvement in local business, media, etc., by former OU players. I think they showed him a path beyond football alone and it all was close to home for him.
This was probably more than just a football decision.

and it probably helps that they have turned the program around and are back to leading the Big 12. that's something you can sell. people were willing to write Veneables off, but here they are. we get way too focused on immediate results. Look at Norvell at FSU too.

Of course if Dabo continues to melt down, Venables maybe his replacement and decide to trade in the plains for the lake at Clemson one day in the not to distant future. Calling the Clemson fans bandwagon fans and need Clemson might need a few more losses so the bandwagon people will get off was not a good look for ole DaBo.

I'm really surprised no one has talked about his injury.

It seems obvious to me that his injury changed the calculus for him here.

1. He may have expected early playing time at UT, but now he's likely red-shirting so where he goes is not as big of a factor.

2. The staff at OU can probably at least check on his recovery after surgery if he keeps paying to visit the campus. It's expensive and takes a long time to visit UT, just to have them occasionally check on his recovery.

3. The staff at OU probably knows local specialists in the area that they can refer him to and work with on a semi-regular basis.

All of this adds up to, OU is a better fit for him now.

That sale has a short shelf-life. Beginning next year, they'll be mid-pack in the SEC.

Hadn't even heard that he was injured.
