comparing Auburn versus Tennessee is comparing apples to oranges. Would you "others" not concede the point that it is OK to expect the team to improve or at least "stay the same" and not regress from game to game like they have done for the last three games? Should we not expect their special teams play to at least continue to get better and not worse as the season progresses?

There are so many variables involved to just make all these snap judgements. We have to show more patience than expectation. In time, the reality will expose itself...it's just too soon to tell.

I would hope for at least a h@ll of a lot better special team play, and on the D you know vandy is going to run them 2 play A got 5oo yards on, hope we did adjust to that.:lolabove:

Who have the Vols lost to that they weren't supposed to? They actually beat a ranked team & have a chance to make a bowl game. Most of you clowns would ***** if you were hung with a new rope (not a bad idea for some)

I think the opponents and depth had something to do with the "regression"

(A) Please define "regress" before we have the conversation. By "regress", do you mean play worse, lose worse?

The past three games, we have played Alabama, MO and Auburn. Alabama is undefeated and has pounded everyone they've played except A&M. MO has pounded everyone they've played except SCe. Auburn has scored a bunch of points this year.

We have played a true freshman QB the past 3 games.

We beat up the first two. Lost the second two. W, L, W, L, L, L

I'm not so sure we've "regressed" as much as played to our potential against the competition we faced each week.

(B) Why are you so all-fired excited to come up with a valid reason our coaching staff sucks?

I mean... It just seams that way. "Well, if the first argument failed, can we consider this one?"

I don't agree with the premise my first argument failed. I'm not ready to conclude our coaching staff sucks. But I am concerned.

When will you be ready to make a judgement?

Hello!!! Boy the sunshine pumpers are sure not gonna be your friend with logical posts like that !!!

Don't use logic Sandvol, and temper your expectations to fall in line, or else you'll rain on somebody's Big Orange "feel good" parade around here.

I don't think we have regressed as much as our late season opponents have improved dramatically!

What most considered possible wins, Mizzou and AU are currently #8 and #6! WTH????

When your first argument is based on the comparison between UT's situation to a team that just won a National title, had one losing season, and just hired their former offensive coordinator that pulled in high recruiting classes that were tailored to his scheme... Trust me. It failed. Brilliantly. To quote your OP in this thread... Let's just concede it.

As hard as you are rooting around for an argument that will stick, it seems you have some emotional investment in the idea that our staff sucks.

Oh goody. One of these threads. I was getting worried we were gonna go through the day without one.

Please point out the logic. We've beaten teams we were supposed to beat, lost to teams that we were supposed to lose to, and beaten one we were not supposed to. Please point out the logical regression.

Would "logic" tell you that a golden gloves junior welterweight champion who lost to Mike Tyson suddenly "regressed" as a boxer?

There were people here who said 5 wins would be OK with them as long as the team was competitive and improved over the course of the year. I have not gone back to check but my guess is that many of those same people have changed their tactics now to "Well, competition....".

The D over the last 3 games has been poorly coached.

We take Georgia to overtime, beat South Carolina and then get dumped for three straight games? We can't even stay within 3 touch downs of any of those teams? We get NCAA return record against us. Doesn't make sense unless something is not clicking between the team and coaching staff.

The D over the past 3 games has performed about on par with the other opponents of those teams. So... Competition... Talent... And all that jazz...

Interesting that after that SCe game, we began starting a freshman QB, and our defense has posted pretty close to what the opponents of those last 3 teams did agianst them.

You can't coach speed. You can coach technique, scheme and gap assignments. But you can't coach speed.

I found out just how slow we apparently are (either b/c of talent or scheme learning curve) by watching several games this weekend.

We just look slow on TV - especially on special teams.

Hey genius, have you even watched the games. The regression is in how we have been playing, not that we're losing. We haven't even been remotely competitive. We've been totally obliterated. Our defense is the same sorry sad sack pitiful piece of crap that we watched last year. No improvement whatsoever. Furthermore, we have performed worse on offense, defense, and special teams as the year has gone on. We haven't seen progress, we're seeing each week a bigger crap performance than the week before.

Good grief, I think the majority of our fan base must be alumni of Tennessee School for the Blind !!!

Some people just can't see logic. We take Georgia and South Carolina to the wire and beat South Carolina. Going forward if your team is improving or just staying the same wouldn't you expect them to at least take Missouri and Auburn to the wire or at least be somewhat close? Did the team not look exceptionally improved against Georgia and South Carolina and looked anemic against Alabama, Missouri, and Auburn? Isn't this the definition of regression? We weren't even staying the same. Weren't you sunshine pumpers saying we were going to beat Missouri and Auburn? You must have been somewhat shocked and disappointed?
