OK so how do we get to bowl from here??

Why do you think we lose to Auburn? I'm currently more concerned about Mizzou and Candy.

I still think its a good possibility to get to 7. I don't see why so many aren't confident about Auburn. After watching the Auburn-LSU game Saturday night, Auburn is on our level, maybe a little worse.

Vandy - should Win

that leaves either AU or Mizzou as the logical choices. AU scares me because of how we have defended mobile quarterbacks in the past. Mizzou scares me because I don't know much about them but they came back and beat us last year...hopefully we can finish it this year.

Call me crazy, but I think we can hang with UGA this year....not saying we should win, but here's why. Their style is to run it right at you, which plays right into the strength of our D. They don't run the QB (although Murray can run) much, and pretty much just turn around and hand it to the back. Also Richt's reluctance to give it to Gurley 30+ times a game helps.

It's going to be extremely hard to reach a bowl game this year. It would require winning games against Missou on the road and we couldn't beat Missou last year with Bray, Hunter, Patterson, Rivera and Rodgers at home. The same is true about beating Vandy and Auburn, I'm still worried about beating an improving Kentucky team on the road. Anything is possible, but we will have to improve tremendously if we are to have any chance what so ever at going bowling.

I think right now the prudent course of action would be to try and figure out how we get past South Alabama. "Should be" an easy win however..........

In a huge comedy of errors, you have left out one important factor.

I don't see Missouri being a "winnable" game anymore then Auburn or Vandy. I'll just point out one thing for Missouri--they were doing pretty well prior to changing conferences. The one reason they sucked last year was because their QB and RB (both good players) were banged up. Tennessee, where this program is now we can't take any team for granted except the Austin Peay/South Alabama type opponents.

They'd also lost various combinations of their top 5-7 o-linemen throughout the year, without the depth to really replace it.

Again, I'm not saying we'll beat Mizzou, but they haven't played anybody. Let's wait until later to judge our matchup with them.

Missouri's also a mobile QB

They were mid-pack in a top heavy conference. Their high water mark passed when Chase Daniel was done. They LACK TALENT. People here complain about UT's roster... it is significantly better and deeper with SEC caliber players than Mizzou's is. They are several years away and that is only if they start recruiting better.

No. That was a factor that made them worse... but they only play two positions. Their bigger issues are everywhere else.

That's true. But UT has more talent than Mizzou and it isn't all that close... even after the losses of Bray, Hunter, and CP.

I think 7 is a very good possibility and well within the ability of the roster and coaching staff. AND I think it is very important to get that slightly better bowl bid. A bowl game around or after NYD may let some EE recruits participate in bowl practices. That could be HUGE since some of them are likely to start next fall.

I'm not sure 6-6 or 7-5 would likely get us a NYE or NYD bowl with the way the rest of the conference is stacking up so far

Probably true. The one thing that working our favor if we happen to get to 7-5 is we'll have a fan base dying to go somewhere and spend money since it's been so long.

Possibly - though if we start getting regular poor/lesser attendance at games it might not help.

Isn't it also that the decisions are made regarding team quality as well as, well, don't we have to be within a game of the conference or overall record to jump a team?

Maybe... but I am looking for some of the currently loved teams to fade. I personally think USCe will. I may be wrong... but I just don't think they're that good. Unfortunately they have a cake schedule.

I think 7-5 gives UT a real shot. I would not be completely surprised if a 6-6 UT team got passed over due to the last few years.

I commend you for the rational analysis. Seems the post UF beatdown blues have rebounded expectations around here... At this pace folks will be predicting a Sugar Bowl appearance after we beat S. Alabama. :eek:lol:

We are not a better team than Vandy, Auburn or wait for it... Mizzou. Every last one of their QBs would start for us. Odds are pretty good that we won't be favored by Vegas in any of those games. For UT to go bowling CBJ & company will have to beat UK and steal 2 of 3 against the others.

Keep in mind Vandy, Mizzou, and Auburn all have the ability to score points. 4 games into the season we struggle to complete a forward pass. At the start of the season I thought 6-6 was doable but I'm revising my estimate to 5-7.

I am going to take this approach and look at tn opponent the week before and our Opponents schedule the wk before.

TN vs SA @ TN. - W
vs GA GA vs LSU @ TN. - L
OPEN
vs USC USC @ Ark @ TN - L/T
vs AL AL vs Ark @ AL. - L
vs MO MO vs GA. @ MO. - W*
vs AU AU @ Ark. @ TN. - L/T
vs VU VU vs Ky @ TN. - W
vs KY KY @ GA. @ KY - W

* Mizzou schedule prior to TN is Brutal--Vandy, GA, FL, USC with no break

** Vandy schedule @TX A&M, OPEN, @ FL, KY

Our open week before USC could help

We stay healthy we should be in a bowl....Worley is a key and now Freshman will have to possibility step up with Peterman out...

The SEC is physically brutal...I think we improve every week....we are catching two winnable games at home AU and USC.
