You my friend know your stuff. If you travel to Oxford for the game, I'll have a shot of whiskey and a beer waiting for you.

I plan on being there. There's few places as neat as Oxford. Whenever I'm in north MS for work I make it a point to stop in and grab a meal somewhere in Oxford.

I believe they call him planter as in plantation owner. He was not their mascot until the 70's which seems a little like a big f u to the civil rights movement. Kind of like how Georgia did not have the stars and bars on their flag until 1956.

He was not an on field mascot until the 70's but they became the rebels in the 30's and had a pictorial mascot of a rebel. And yes, the planter does mean plantation owner. I said as much and agreed that it's not any better than a soldier. Was just clarifying for the guy who's hellbent on saying he's a confederate soldier despite being shown every form of proof.

I am interested in the avatar but don't know what a reverse racist is. A racist is a racist regardless of race, color or creed.

My avatar is a man who was willing to fight and die for the safety and empowerment of his people. Personal hero of mine.

I don't know why there is a ? in the thread title.

Ole Miss Black Bears is more racist and gay than their current nickname.

As a history teacher and proud southerner I have mixed views on this stuff. Ole Miss, I don't see the problem, it's what their students and alum call their school with affection. Rebels it's a name given to Soldiers trying to be separated from their current government, and start a new one. George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and yes Luke Skywalker were all Rebs.
I think people are going overboard wanting the name change. Also the Reb mascot needs to be wearing gray or butternut to look like a true Confederate.:salute:

Also, I am now offended that the NY Yankees continue to be allowed to use that name and mascot. The moniker"Yankee" is offensive.

I have a tattoo of your avatar. It was on the season tickets some time in the early 90's. It was my 2nd tattoo, now I have 21.

He was killed by his own people wasn't he? Really a question.

So they tell us. But up until 1999 James Earl Ray was the only person guilty of killing MLK. I never believe what the government and its media have to say about people of African descent.

Your distrust of government is warranted. My only reservation is that I don't believe your statement should be limited to people of African descent.

Maybe they could be the Mississippi African American Bears. Since they are black they are of African descent and should be called African American. This whole PC thing is well, political. Being African American would imply a person is a fairly recent immigrant, or their family, with citizen status. I have Scottish heritage but I am not Scottish American by any means. Sharpeton, JJ, and the vast majority do not even have an accent that accompanies true African Americans. And technically bring African American is a multi racial descriptive term as you can be both white and African American. I prefer the term non-pigmented American.

You appear to have a problem with knowing when to quit. :haha_oh:

Yea, my wife complains about the money I spend on tattoos. I tell her that I could be spending the money on liquor and whores, so she doesn't mind too much:)

Really? Are you Comparing the American Revolutionary War and the Civil War? One was an embarrassing, unnecessary slaughter fest where brother fought brother because of the inability of our politicians to communicate with each other. The other was the war that formed this country.

Or, if you say both wars are about freedom and in that case you should still be embarrassed to portray a confederate soldier of any kind.

Never saw a German person waving around a Nazi flag claiming it was about heritage, pretty sure they are embarrassed of that heritage and they don't embrace it.
The one that you hold so holy was basically people going to war to get out of paying taxes.

Paying taxes without a say in where the taxes went. The revolutionaries had no problem with paying a tax, they just didn't want to support a monarchy. Kind of like what we are supporting today.
