Ole Miss to open with Boise State in 2011

I really like this idea, hopefully Boise can prove that they can play with the best teams consistently.

That proof will come once Boise State joins a legit BCS conference (PAC-10 perhaps?) and continues to have the same level of success playing tough competition every week.

It has been stated numerous times that Boise State will never be invited to the Pac 10.. They don't have the academics or the fanbase.. Besides the fact that the only sport they are competitive in is football.

Boise has only beeen playing D1 football since 1996. I dont know why people think the conferences that have been around for years and years will just add these flavor of the month programs. BSU, South Fla, etc... granted, have experienced success but its all been recent success not long term.
They need to get some experience under their belt before they're allowed to sit at the adult table.

USF is already sitting at the adult table (BCS).

This game is good for both programs. It puts Ole Miss in the spotlight on opening weekend, and it gives Boise a game against a BCS team. That pricetag is not that high either considering that Boise is a much better team than you usually get without having to pay a return trip.

eff. this is the kind of game i hate seeing on boise's schedule. it's a completely winnable game for boise, but it's an ooc, bcs conference, sec game that will give them ammo when they claim they should be in the title game. i'd rather them have to play GOOD bcs conference teams that will beat them (like va tech next season) or else not be able to schedule any bcs conference opponents so they don't really have any claim.

So you're not real big on good teams getting recognized for their accomplishments?

Schedule TCU then. I mean, it doesnt matter right? They're a "little school".
I'd be much more afraid of TCU, and that's even after this past bowl loss.

Patterson>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Petersen and TCU>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Boise State, IMO.

But they're still a "small school" though. Im all for teams like that getting a chance at the big boys if they earn it. The poster I quoted sounded like he was opposed to that concept, which imo, is a pretty unfair.

If Nebraska didnt get screwed in the Texas game, TCU woulda played Bama for the NCG. (And it woulda been a better game)

And lets not forget the Broncos embarrasing Stoops. They haven't exactly sucked recently.

Again, BSU has only been playing D1 football since 1996. That 14 yrs. They're a teenager that wants to be be treated like a mature adult. And paid like it too without doing the leg work that all the other conferences and teams did to get them into the financial situation they are now.

Put em' on the schedule and teach those "teenagers" a lesson then. Or better yet, do like I suggested, if you need a small school thats been around for a while, and schedule TCU.

Im sure the folks from Ft. Worth wont mind traveling East.

we heard the same about Fresno St a few years ago too and saw how that worked out. Everyone loves the little engine that could and their rare victories over big name teams. Start playing a schedule full of them and it could get ugly

Fresno is far less of a storied program if we're making that comparison. Again, thats not my rule. The whole "teenager" analogy came from somewhere else.

agreed it could. For the "Big boys".

laughable. Much easier to get up for 1 game with plenty of time to prepare than to do it for a season. They'd be about equal to Kentucky or maybe USCjr if forced to do that

yet they were supposed to be ready to step up and made the same challenge BSU has.

all you have to do is look at Marshall. Move from 1a to 1 and they were the media darling for some time. Now, they're a also ran. Its easy to have short term success. Having it over the long term is different.

I guess after they curb stomp Oregon State to open the season this year, it'll be because the Pac 10 is weak.

I say if a TCU or a Boise State run through their schedule undefeated, regardless of how long they've been around, or who they did or didnt schedule, they have a valid argument to get a shot at it. College football is about money. The powers that be must not think those markets are worth the risk, and most "big boys" wont play em'.

Are they scared? I dont know. Should they be? Hell yeah. Set up the Vols with a home and home and see who gets wrecked.

If you win, you should get a shot. Period.

You're really hung up on the old school, historical side of the issue. Im not sure why.

you sound exactly like the guy we had on here not long ago claiming UT should have had to play Tulane in 98 instead of FSU (also said we would have lost).

actually it's because oregon state always sucks at the beginning of the season. if they beat virginia tech convincingly on the road i'll give em some props.

I know it wasn't you but he made the exact same "undefeated" argument. Had all kinds of fun stats to prove his point too
