Ole Miss to open with Boise State in 2011

I guess after they curb stomp Oregon State to open the season this year, it'll be because the Pac 10 is weak.

I say if a TCU or a Boise State run through their schedule undefeated, regardless of how long they've been around, or who they did or didnt schedule, they have a valid argument to get a shot at it. College football is about money. The powers that be must not think those markets are worth the risk, and most "big boys" wont play em'.

Are they scared? I dont know. Should they be? Hell yeah. Set up the Vols with a home and home and see who gets wrecked.

If you win, you should get a shot. Period.

You answer your own question of why no one really wants to play them. As you say "college football is about money". BSU has a stadium that seats about 33K and will be expanding to approx 50k. Even with the expansion, what major program wants to go to a stadium that's half the size of their home? Will BSU pay $900k for a team to come to their HS stadium? no. The Vols could pay them twice as much to move the game to Knoxville and still make twice as much as BSU would at home.

To be recognized as a premiere football team, you not only have to do it on the field but you also have to do it financially. That means facilities as well as paying other programs to come to your house. Right now they're not in that position. They want to be, but they're not. Until then they'll always be know as wanna bes.

Tell me, would you rather have their results over the last 4 or 5 years, or Tennessee's?

I would rather UT have had their schedule full of homecoming opponents for the last 4-5 yrs and see who wants to trade

Out of curiosity how hard would it be for TCU to play big home games in Jerry's world? Surely any big time school would make the trip to Dallas for that alone.

If Arkansas can afford to do it once a year, Im sure TCU could do it several times. But, does a big bad SEC powerhouse like SCAR want to come to Texas to get housed on national TV? Doubtful.

what's the relavance? i very much doubt that any tenn fan would rather be in the mountain west even with the success. it isn't an apples to apples comparison. i think that tenn fans wouldn't be too happy if tenn had only one bcs road victory in their history.

All of that maybe true Droski, but theres a thread out there about "when the vols will break the top 25". The folks in FT. Worth are expecting to be in the top 5 to start the year.

i can't imagine how boring it must be for a boise fan to have to sit through 9 virtual exhibition games.

that's great but they play only one team that is considered tough. Win the opener and go undefeated sounds like a pretty good deal

The same could be said for Texas could it not? I mean, all they gotta do is beat Oklahoma and then its all just a bunch of scrimmages right?

and anyone can "get up for atleast one game". Thats how Texas is so successful.

All of those crappy teams they play still generally pull in talent that Boise would murder for.

you aren't seriously comparing the big-12 to the wac are you? if they had to play in the mountain west i 100% guarantee you they wouldn't be undefeated every year.

No, Im addressing a point that has been made about teams that only have to get up for one game. Texas has been lumped in with that group on these boards before.

As far as the talent that Big12 schools have that Boise would die for, I'll address it like this. I'd take Boise over Iowa State, and Colorado heads up right now. They could play the game in a parkinglot for all I care.

yes but colorado and iowa state would probably still go 8-4 in the WAC. it truly is that bad. boise's a top 15-20 team. they dont' suck, but they aren't bcs title worthy either.

they're better than Notre Dame, and we all know how they get ranked every year. If Notre Dame ran the table, would they get a shot?

Some of those look winnable. Army, Navy, Utah, Tulsa, maybe catch a Pittsburg team asleep it not horrible. I'll agree its no cake walk either. Valid point Droski.
