I was one of his critics concerning his effort which seemed unbelievable at times. How can an athlete who trains as hard as ON not bring max effort playing in front of 20K+ fans? I was hoping he would return however instead of depending on heavy contributions from freshmen. Either way, best wishes to him!It looks like I'm alone on this, but I was looking forward to having him back. Kinda sucks.
How often did you see the Vols take advantage of ON drawing the D out of the lane? Not very often. The glaring issue on offense was our inability to take it to the rim from the perimeter. It seems like Phillips did it early in the season but not much after--not nearly enough anyway. He will be missed. While he was a roller coaster of production, he was a solid big on defense.....
And he was the only big that we had that could consistently space the floor. Regardless if he was knocking down the 3's, having a big that can shoot hurts defenses.
It definitely felt like he showed his potential this year, and it also felt like he reached his ceiling for what he could get from college. I could see him developing his outside shot and being a good rotation big on the NBA level. He was strong enough at multi positional defense to stay on the floor against some small teams this year.ON always seemed to be a good guy, and although inconsistent, those dominating outings against Duke and Texas were extremely welcome. Certainly hope it works out for him and seems like a good start to work himself into the pros somewhere.
Whatever frustrations fans may have had with him, he was the leading rebounder and second leading scorer on a team that won 25 games and made the second weekend. I’m not surprised he’s getting these kinds of offers.Looks like he is visiting West Virginia, Kansas State, and Michigan. Interesting group of schools
He's one of those guys that looks good on the surface. If we were trying to land him from UNC or Indiana with his numbers, we'd all be stoked, but without a full realization of the total picture.Whatever frustrations fans may have had with him, he was the leading rebounder and second leading scorer on a team that won 25 games and made the second weekend. 100%. I stated multiple times that he was looking for $$$, big $$$, the thought was that was likely going to come overseas as a college team likely wasn’t going to pay what he wanted. Removing his name from NBA Draft leaves the college option on the table thus still leverage with an international team, although it’s looking increasingly possible that a school is going to be desperate enough to give him the $$$ he wants.Still standing by this?

That seems to be a little contradictory. It certainly seems like it might be, at least a little bit, about pursuing further education (playing college ball)...unless, of course, by "pursuing further education", you meant literally from an education standpoint, which I don't think anyone ever believed, or even tried to make a case that this was ever about literally advancing his education.100%. I stated multiple times it was about leveraging for the most money, the thought was that was likely to come from overseas basketball but as teams have gotten desperate the offers have increased. That seems to be a little contradictory.
