Olivier Nkamhoua Enters the Transfer Portal

How do you know? Is you're last name Nkamhoua?

He isn't good enough to get drafted, maybe good enough to play in the Euro league.

The kid is smart, maybe he is setting it up for his future.
it’s a leverage move to get more money from overseas pro teams, I didn’t say he’s not smart, but this isn’t about him trying to pursue further education.

Definitely the way it was back in my day. Though today, I wonder... Socio-political homogeneity has reached so far into even the STEM departments, I wonder how many schools have maintained their academic integrity?

On the other hand, if Olivier plans to have a career in Europe, the EU is as rigidly committed to ESG policies as the most woke corporation in the U.S.

I’m gonna resist the temptation…

I'd rather him stay tbh. He provides good depth. He did bring us some wins and obviously the Duke game stands out the most.

If I'm being honest though, I wouldn't want to play for Barnes. The fact that he did not play Awaka more against FAU was incredibly dumb. He's a great defensive coach and probably our greatest coach to date, but that doesn't mean we turn a blind eye to some obvious coaching flaws. Jmo.

The Duke game will get him attention from some of the blue-bloods.
I honestly don't know that I blame him. He is laser focused on getting drafted, and it could benefit from playing in a more modern offense.
I had him on my podcast recently, and his focus on getting drafted came up several times.

Do you have any coaching experience? Anyone watching that game could’ve seen that it didn’t favor Awaka’s strengths. FAU spreads you out, Awaka would’ve been a liability on defense in that game.

He disappears more than he shows up. Can not rely on him producing. When he is cooking, we usually win. Problem, he is seldom in the kitchen.

That’s fine if that’s how you remember him but people cheering his departure is out of line, imo. He was a good player and if we find someone in the portal to replace his production that would be our biggest portal success by a mile

I do not. Do you? Anyone with a little common sense would know that if you're getting your ass kicked on the glass and you're sitting arguably one of the best rebounders in the country, you probably deserve to lose. At the end of the day, we lost and hindsight is 20/20. I wouldn't have sat him down, even though he made a defensive error. He would have made up for our lack of offense by getting a rebound and putting it back up. Jmo though.

Pretty good move I think. Could land with Kim English at Providence or somewhere at that level and get 30 mpg and be a real force for one more season to improve his stock overseas.

I think ON at a team that isn't playing in one of the 2 or 3 big schools could have a really good year. He also may simply one to see another part of the country in the US before returning overseas. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.

Pretty glowing piece on him in The Athletic this morning. As fans we saw so much inconsistency, that it's hard to put everything into perspective at times.

5. Olivier Nkamhoua | 6-8 forward | One year of eligibility | Tennessee
Expect that Nkamhoua will be one of the more popular players in the portal. It’s surprising that he’d leave Tennessee, as he really came on late in the year. He likely would have been a preseason first-team All-SEC pick if he decided to go back. His 27-point outburst against Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament was one of the best performances we’ve seen in this Big Dance, and it was far from his only monster game. He only averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game for the Vols, but Rick Barnes’ team tended to spread the wealth on offense. Nkamhoua shot 51 percent from the field and grew into a potential 3-point threat over the course of the season. The 6-foot-8 forward was also a big part of one of the most stifling defenses in the country this year, constantly being aware of what’s happening around him rotationally and taking on tough frontcourt assignments. He’s been a reliable two-year starter, and he looks like he’s on the verge of breaking out into something even bigger. The question is whether or not that will be in college basketball or in a professional setting. Nkamhoua is a native of Finland, and won’t have any issues finding gainful employment overseas in a really strong league to start his career. That’s probably the more sensible move for him financially long-term. But if Nkamhoua does return to college, he’d likely be an all-conference player next season wherever he suits up.

I guess you missed the play where Awaka left a wide open path for an easy layup. Maybe a good coach only needs to see that once before pulling his player.

I indeed did see the play you're referring to.

Have you ever made a mistake? Maybe a "good coach " wouldn't have his players making a single mistake in the game? Lol. I have no problem if he wants to take him out of the game and coach him but to bench him for that particular game is beyond stupid. I'm not a coach, just a fan and it's just my opinion. I like Barnes and I think he is a good coach, but how he manages his players minutes and substitutions is just awful.

I’m guessing he’s going to Providence with Kim English going there.

He'd be foolish if he does.

Providence returns Bryce Hopkins, an All-Big East player who led Providence in scoring & rebounds, as well as a transfer from all A10 player Josh Oduro who led Mason in scoring & rebounding.

Did he give his all to Tennessee, I don't think he did, but you could see on the sideline that he was not very happy with Barnes several times.
He was more than a project when Barnes signed him. Barnes put a lot of effort in trying to teach him the game. He should be very happy with what Barnes taught him Fact is, he was still very inconsistent and seemed to not give his best effort to play. In the games he decided to give his best effort he was better than most expected. He just didn’t reach that level of play very often and he has only himself to blame for that.

Olivier just wasn't ever really suited to Barnes style of play. I think he saw himself as a stretch four who would shoot the three and draw his man out to the perimeter. And I'm sure he did not like to defend the opponent's five as he was undersized at the five, where Barnes so often wanted him to play. He was a round peg, Barnes system is a square hole.

I bel

Wouldn’t be surprised if Plavsic is the next to leave.
Could be Barnes might want him to move on don't think he was very happy with some of his antics on the court. Regardless when the roster is ready we'll have a very good team again Barnes will get what we need to compete.

I don't get all the bashing. Yeah he tended to have off games but so did everyone else. It seems like the bulk of the fanbase, more specifically the bulk of posters, tend to think that if you don't average 20/10 every night that you suck. I think he made boneheaded plays once in a while but I'll hold any criticism in that arena for Mr. Plavsic. As some of you guys get older hopefully you'll be able to better enjoy the season and the players and quit thinking it's a down year because we don't make it as far as you want in the big dance. We had a fine season and I personally enjoyed watching a fine group of men represent our team.

I'm 43, and I don't think we had a down year. I'm very much alright with the totality of the end result from a 10000-foot view.

I also couldn't stand Olivier Nkamhoua. Never have cared for him. Didn't like that we recruited him, didn't see the upside (though he showed more potential across his career than I ever anticipated), and think he was extremely inconsistent in both the production and the effort departments across his career.

Being fed up with a player and enjoying the season aren't mutually exclusive.

The potential he showed in games, this year, like Texas and Duke, never manifested itself in any consistent form. I never expected him to be a 20/10 guy every night, but it's entirely fair to be frustrated, as a fan, to get that kind of production 3-4 times in a season, and then see if followed up with 6/2 nights. The inconsistency of his entire career was pretty much summed up in his final two games. All-world against Duke, invisible against Florida Atlantic.

There's a reason he doesn't have the option to return to Tennessee despite having a year of eligibility at a position of need.

There are a lot of dumb VN posters. Their collective IQ takes a dive with every bad play that happens in-games. ON started EVERY game this year AND TN was ranked in EVERY AP poll. I don’t remember him playing bad defense even if he wasn’t scoring on the other end.
