meline has been injured most of his high school years and still has a high rating... i really think this guy is explosive when he gets healthy

we will get someone. kiffin is doing great but i still think he is looking for this years icing on the cake or this yeas bryce brown. guys like seastrunk, dyer, m brown etc. i know strunk is a big strecth but if we get him to visit anything is possible. seastrunk was worried about depth and use. hardesty and probably poole gone next year. that leaves two backs. could seastrunk be the third?

I hope so that would be awesome he could play RB or WR

As far as RBs go, y'all are forgetting about Toney Williams. I'm definately not comparing him to Lache but he looked really solid in the spring before the injury. Just saying we should have 3 solid backs next year

I have a feeling what we're building here is going to resemble Alabama's running game and defense a lot more than it resembles the quick strike offenses you find elsewhere.

Hopefully, he fully recovers from that injury. I think he will. He's started back practicing about 2 weeks ago so he should be fine by the spring...

No I dont think it will resemble Alabamas O. It will most likely look more like USCs. Big strong bangers at rec who can catch and block. With speed and strength out of the backfield. Not as methodical as Bama way more passing.

Vader, what type of injury did he have?

One thing to keep in mind. Many of the current freshman have not had the benefit of an offseason strength and conditioning program. As CLK said on his show the other day, guys like Oku will get stronger and faster in the spring. This will help the EE's as well.

I think that Bama wants to be more explosive. They have the personnel with the exception of the QB position right now.

Kiffin likes to have a mixture of talents on his offense...he is not a fan of having 5 guys that do the same thing like he has now from Cut/Fulmer recruiting era.

Tall Red zone/physical short yardage WR = Milton
Small smooth slot WR - Jones/Moore/Teague/Rogers
Elite Route Runner - Ambles/Teague could fit yr in a yr or 2
Home RUN Hitter - Thompkins/Meline(potentially after weight program/def has measurements)
Pass Catching TE - Stocker/Ken Adams/Delvin Jones
Physical Every down back - Bryce
Short yd goal line back - Toney Williams
Scat back - Oku

lots and lots of weapons for Kiffin to play with

Williams blew out his knee, ACL tear. But he's practicing now...

They have got to find ways to get Julio Jones the ball. McElroy just isn't getting it done and Julio has been relegated to a downfield blocker (albeit, a good one).

If I were Julio Jones I would be having buyers remorse with choosing Bama. He is probably the most underutilized receiver in the nation.

As far as Ted Meline, somebody said he has been playing injured, I didn't know that. Because from what little I have seen, he looks nowhere near 4.4 speed. I hope he gets healthy and makes a liar out of me, because right now I think he is overrated.

It would be nice to pick up one more legit playmaker that can flat out scoot, but outside of Meline I don't see it thus far in this class.

Just my 2 cents, TIFWIW.

thats a really exciting list. I love Oku's attitude and can't wait to see how he progresses by next season. I think he could be the reggie bush type versatile/explosive player everyone is hoping for.

Is a single 70 yard play more important than a series of 5 yard pickups off left tackle?

More important? I don't know... but at least as important. It is alot easier if you have explosive athletes to hit a home run on one well executed play than to string together 12 plays without making a drive stopping mistake.

You need that 10 yds at a time O... but you have to be able to pick up yardage in chunks too.

USC never had a expolsive threat at WR, during the Carroll Tenure. They always had guys like Mike Williams, Dominque Byrd, Dwayne Jarrett, Steve Smith, Keary Colbert. Fundamentally sound recievers.

Steve Smith was explosive before all of his injuries at USC.

We need burners on our offense and not just at RB. It's easy to contain a running attack when you don't fear a true deep threat. I also know routine routes can turn into big plays with explosive WRs. Like the one play that really stands out to me is the reverse to Gerald Jones saturday against Ole Miss. I think Jones got 8 or 9 yards. An explosive guy would have gotten around 15-30 yards on that play. It's really hurting us not having these type of players playing for us.

Excellent post.

I think that the problem next year will be that the QB will have difficulty understanding what Kiffin wants. I think however that with a new QB and a new OL we will be pleasantly surprised by our offensive prowess if we keep our expectations low. By two years from now, I expect us to average 30 plus PPG on offense and give up less than 21 on defense.
