One of the Greatest Performances Ever by a Vol?

Fulkerson's 27 in Lexington to lead an upset of then #6 Kentucky is one of my favorite single game performances. He was 10 of 15 from the field and made 7 of 7 from the line. Not putting him in the same category as some of the other players but it was a great comeback against a highly ranked rival on their home floor.
That was beautiful and reading the real time reaction on Rupps Rafters is one of the highlights of the whole Barnes era.

I'd put King ahead of Maravich from what I saw on TV and later video. Bernard played much better as part of a team that Pete did.
Ellis was better than Wilkins, especially when I saw them play each other in Stokely.
Shaq and Barkley were good in college but not on Ellis' or Wilkins' level.
This has been debated occasionally on here. There's a surprising number of people that think Pete was better than King. If King had shot at the rate Pete did he'd have averaged 58ppg. Pete just had an unlimited green light to try anything he wanted.

He was a man possessed in that game.

You obviously didn't see Dale Ellis dragging a below average roster to consecutive NCAA's and giving the Sampson Virginia teams all they could handle. Knecht might be a better pure offensive player, but Ellis had to do it all, every night, for those teams - primary (only real) offensive threat while guarding the best player, regardless of position. He was unselfish to a fault at UT, in great contrast to his NBA career as a hired gun. Bernard was the best, but I'd put Ellis in the group right behind him.
I did watch Dale Ellis and he was a great Vol. However he was not dropping 35 plus on a nightly basis.

He averaged about 22 a game, but he was a completely different player who was asked to do a whole lot more than simply score. He was guarding the best player, regardless of position, he was an excellent passer as well. I'm taking nothing from DK, but scoring 30+ over 4-5 games isn't the same as carrying what was an average UT team to four consecutive NCAA's. And he was a 1st team All-American as a senior.

His freshman year Reggie Johnson, Gary Carter and others were still there. He didn't do too much but made a big jump his sophomore year, teaming with Howard Wood and a young backcourt. I believe he averaged around 15 that year.
