8am tomorrow scheduled for me. Pretty scared about this and wanted to get others opinions on this. I'm 54 years old and the surgeon said I could get another 20 years with the procedure.

I had a heart attack on 16 Oct. Had the catheter procedure a couple days later. They couldn't do a stint job as the blockage was too great.

I opted to move back to Mo for the procedure and aftercare as my wife couldn't logistically deal with it at home. I have heard and read nothing but positive reviews from the surgeon.

Anyone else have this done, and what was your aftercare experience?

TIA

Same here Volger. I don't have much knowledge on the subject, but I do know it's amazing what can be done today in terms of medical procedures. A good friend of mine had one of the valves from her heart operated on and was in and out in 3 days.

You didn't ask for prayers, but I hope you won't mind if I include you in my prayers tonight.

Thanks for the prayers. No I didn't ask but appreciate them. They said I would be in the hospital for 5 days, then a week at home before cardiac rehab. I need to hit the sack now. 6am showtime is too early for me. Feel free to add to the topic. I doubt I feel like responding for a while, but I appreciate reading any news on what to expect after surgery.

Thanks again VN.

Prayers for you buddy! I had a heart attack back in January. They were able to treat me with a stint. My best advice would be to listen to your cardioligist. They will give you good advice on diet and exercise. If you follow it you should be able to lead a fairly healthy life for years to come.

My grandfather had open heart surgery and all went well. He proceeded to live the rest of a long happy life ultimately passing from complications due to Alzheimer's, non-heart related. They have come a long way with technology and procedures over the years. You'll be better than ever.

My dad had a quadruple by-pass a little over 20 years ago, and is thankfully still with us. I have to imagine technology has made quite a few steps forward since then. Best wishes.

Volger, I know 2 people that have had open heart surgery in the last 5 years. Both are doing great and so will you. We'll be thinking about you and your family.

My Dad had quintuple bypass surgery in 1979 and three more in 1993. Passed away from other causes in 2012 at the age of 93.
