My Dad had heart surgery 2 years ago, and it was probably a week before he really had his faculties about him

it takes some time,I was surprised at how short of breath I was, that was my biggest problem after a couple of days

8am tomorrow scheduled for me. Pretty scared about this and wanted to get others opinions on this. I'm 54 years old and the surgeon said I could get another 20 years with the procedure.

I had a heart attack on 16 Oct. Had the catheter procedure a couple days later. They couldn't do a stint job as the blockage was too great.

I opted to move back to Mo for the procedure and aftercare as my wife couldn't logistically deal with it at home. I have heard and read nothing but positive reviews from the surgeon.

Anyone else have this done, and what was your aftercare experience?

TIA

My dad had 4 bypasses 15 years ago. He is doing very well. Very active.

Prayers sent. Did it shock the surgeons when the opened you up and found that you bled orange?👍

Alive and well VN. The technology today blows my mind. Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes. It really means a lot.

I could have probably responded here last night, but I had company here late. I am on blood thinners, potassium, and a few other drugs, but no pain meds. Foley catheter and a central line in my neck is the only thing left in me. Doc says I can go home as early as Friday or Saturday. Crazy to think you can have open heart surgery and be home in 4 days.

Awesome brother! I've been checking and waiting to see you post so we'd know you were ok. This made my day.

Very good to hear Volger, and thanks for checking in to give us all an update. Glad things have gone, and are going, so well.

Catheter coming out after dinner. They are keeping the central line in for everything else.

Doc said I could get 20 years on the bypass if I quit smoking. I went from 2 packs a day to less than half a pack this year by vaping. Quitting should be no problem.

No need to hurry. And it's ok to take baby steps at first. I had a heart attack and all they did was put in a stint, so much less serious than yours. When I did start exercising, I walked. First day made it all of a half block before having to turn around. Second day I got to the same mailbox as the day before and was exhausted again. Wife told me to turn around again and I said no - HELL no. I was not going a single day without making improvement - walked to next mailbox and turned around. It was amazing how quickly I was able to walk for a solid half hour as fast as I could and not even be out of breath. I'm sure you'll be the same way in no time.
