Open heart surgery

No need to hurry. And it's ok to take baby steps at first. I had a heart attack and all they did was put in a stint, so much less serious than yours. When I did start exercising, I walked. First day made it all of a half block before having to turn around. Second day I got to the same mailbox as the day before and was exhausted again. Wife told me to turn around again and I said no - HELL no. I was not going a single day without making improvement - walked to next mailbox and turned around. It was amazing how quickly I was able to walk for a solid half hour as fast as I could and not even be out of breath. I'm sure you'll be the same way in no time.

Nice. They have me doing laps around the cardio floor 4 times a day so far. Holding onto the back of a wheelchair.

I really appreciate the support VN. The only bad thing is I had to move back to Mo for aftercare. And most likely a divorce.

Alive and well VN. The technology today blows my mind. Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes. It really means a lot.

I could have probably responded here last night, but I had company here late. I am on blood thinners, potassium, and a few other drugs, but no pain meds. Foley catheter and a central line in my neck is the only thing left in me. Doc says I can go home as early as Friday or Saturday. Crazy to think you can have open heart surgery and be home in 4 days.

Great news!

Doc said I could get 20 years on the bypass if I quit smoking. I went from 2 packs a day to less than half a pack this year by vaping. Quitting should be no problem.
My grandad had by pass surgery in the early 90's. They told him if he quit smoking he would get 20 more years. He quit and is still going strong at 80 year old. Really happy everything went well for you. Prayers answered

Great news Volger! Listen to your doctor, especially on the smoking part. Once you get past the recovery you'll probably feel better than you have in years. Still praying for you bud!

And if you happen to be watching the Vols this weekend and things aren't going well (which I do not expect), just remember that lighting mattresses on fire and kicking buckets of light bulbs are great stress release. :)

Awesome that you're already so active. Glad to hear from you brother, keep pushing and breaking down obstacles. I say laugh at 20 years and shoot for 30!

Did the Dr mention that the past eight years of Tennessee football may have contributed to your condition?

Yep. I don't have a warm fuzzy on this MSU game either. Might be a good one to go to bed early. I don't need this kind of aggravation right now.

Thank you for reminding me! I forgot that game was on tonight.

The post-op check-in was what I came back to find. Good news!

As for the smoking: I used to joke that quitting smoking was easy, I did it all the time. Come to find out when I finally quit for good, the trick was simply to truly own it in your mind. Know in your heart you're done. Yeah, I'm gonna miss it but it's gone and that sucks but I'm moving on. And then you do just that.

I did it without the added incentive of heart surgery. So you got this. Go enjoy your bonus decades.

Probably a couple weeks on that. Right now I'm doing breathing exercises on a hand held piece of equipment.

Incentive spirometer? Be sure to use that a couple times an hour. I'm sure they've told you why. Nobody likes pneumonia. Glad to hear everything went well, sorry I'm a bit late.

glad your doing well Volger,it is amazing what they can do with surgery and get you home fairly quick these days :)
