Dear Mr Hart,

If you believe that Coach Butch Jones is the future of the UT Vols' football program, please consider moving toward contract discussions NOW. I am sure you agree with many of the fans and see significant improvement in the team with a promise for further development.

The demise of the University of Michigan football program has been similar to the University of Tennessee. Their hopes for renewal under Brady Hoke seem to be turning to disaster. There is little doubt that he is on a very short leash and his hot seat is blistering.

It would surprise few if Michigan came calling to Coach Jones. His ties to Michigan are strong. I would hope and encourage that Coach Jones be rewarded with an extended contract, suitable salary, and with a significant buy-out clause should he be tempted to leave. At the worst, the buy-out money could be used to recruit an established coach that could retain the momentum and, at best, Coach Jones would recognize that the University of Tennessee values him and his efforts on its behalf.

I would suggest that you do it NOW rather than wait until after the upset of Oklahoma.

Sincere Regards,
"Stud Muffin" (my street creds name)

This talk is crazy. I do have to say though, I really believe Butch wants to stay here for his career. He's invested way too much in this program to make a lateral move. Besides, he knows the SEC is the best

Didn't we overspend on Dooley after a modest amount of success? Don't get me wrong, I think Butch can get it done, but after screwing the pooch on Dooley we need to see more before we start handing out raises.

His ties to Michigan have nothing to do with the Univ Of Mich. This is an idiotic letter written by a fan with too much time on his hands. You are too emotional. Try to be more Spock like in the future and think before you type.

The deep insecurity displayed by some within our fan base is just pathetic. It's like a guy with an attractive girlfriend worrying that every guy she glances at is gonna be the guy that steals her from him.

Can we at least let the guy qualify for a bowl before we talk contract extension?

I said this the other day in a thread in the Around the NCAA forum and I was called a troll.

Butch has coached 14 games at UT, and has 1 significant SEC win. I would hold off on increasing his pay until he can bring Tennessee back to the top of the SEC.

Remember that Brady Hoke came in and fired up a dead Michigan fan base and team and looked good for the first couple of years. Butch's doing great so far but the sample size is far too small to know how he's going to be long time. The buy-out works both way, just remember that.

The contract buTch has is fine for now and probably another year.

His assistants that ARE our best recruiters and have done the most to build through recruiting ARE the guys that should get a raise quickly before we lose their excellent recruiting abilities.

Even great teachers/coaches can only do so much with limited talent.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of college football and we MUST keep our best assistants that are our best recruiters no matter what!

Contract extentions and raises for them is what I'd be fine with.

Well he hasn't got us to a bowl yet because of what he was left with to put on the field. Not his fault. If you can't see what he is building at Tennessee then you do not know football. Butch is the answere for Tennessee.
