Open practice updates.

Why? Because teams are worried that their fans will discuss their opinions of the practice on an open sports forum?

You make this sort of "conversation" sound innocuous, when you know better. Ultimately practices are off limits for many reasons. One of the reasons is the negative publicity of a work in progress.

I agree with the sentiment that a coach doesn't need the additional headache of being micromanaged by a fanbase. But truth is we are 2 weeks away from UTs first game. So what we are seeing from the QB position is not going to be much different when we go live. What the fans are seeing from Worley at this point should cause concern going into the season. I guess some of us understand there is a process but that doesn't mean we want to see a crappy product on the field either.

Personally, I don't think he gives us the best chance to win based on the 2 events I witnessed, The O&W game and the scrimmage. Maybe the coaches have seen something else he hasn't displayed in those 2 open forums.

Everything you said might be true, I don't know. I wasn't at the practice and find that I am a bad judge of QB impact during a practice/scrimmage.

I just feel that the majority of the time, it is a bad idea to let people see under the hood of a work in progress. Individuals might be reasonable and intelligent, but the masses are prone to hyper overreaction and lunacy.

I watched Eli Manning look horrible in a preseason game that they lost. I am not comparing Worley to him but the motivation to play at your best against your teammates or in a game that does not matter is rarely there for most players. You can see that with scrimmage reports around the country but most are here are oblivious to it. He may be the worst qb in UT history but you aren't going to be able to tell that from scrimmages. He has already started a few games and did not look bad as a freshman.

Our passing game talent is no worse then Florida's in 2012 (and probably 2013). They went 11-2 with an OLine not in the same class as UT's 2013 line.

The loss of Bray/CP/Hunter does not mean that UT has no passing attack.

Butch (an offensive X/Os guy) is a lot smarter than Dooley and Muschamp (a D coach) when it comes to getting 3* athletes in position to move the ball -- and now he's got 4* and 5*s to work with.

This not a Butch argument, I am all for Butch.

This is a we have crap for QB at the moment argument.

Also note this gem, buried in the post near the end:

I think a lot of the Worley hate is more about wanting to be right than wanting the Vols to just put the best QB on the field.

The hate is also from people who went to the scrimmage and saw a poor performance. Its a valid criticism. He sucked on Saturday. He sucked during the spring. We can inductively conclude he sucks as a quarterback. It does not guarantee that the conclusion is true but it is fun for debate.

Agreed. Most will make an opinion from someone else's opinion and never witness with their own eyes why that person formed that opinion. I'm sensing neither Worley or Peterman has done enough to win the starting job outright from what I've read, heard, & seen. And it sounds like we will be going with a 2 QB system in the Austin Peay game.

That would be a bad attitude to take if its not a foregone conclusion that Worley has the job. If anything he should be hungry every practice, scrimmage, etc. to prove he's the guy for the job.
