Open practice updates.

Worley was atrocious. He's never been good but he looked awful last night. Jones needs to bit the bullet and go a different route.

In full disclosure, I am pulling for Worley to light it up this year...and Ferg to be the future of UT football. That being said ; I honestly just believe in Coaches ability to make the right choice. A few points that are important tho:

1 Worley playing against the 1s while the pthers played against the 2s is huge. Its like a varsity team against JV with our lack of depth on the DL, in the secondary, and bigtime at LB.

2 Players said that they were only allowed to use a very small portion of the playbook...and coach was only going to use the plays that had been run thousands of times in practice to avoid looking woefully unprepared ( like a back or receiver lining up wrong. Or a receiver breaking the wrong way, etc.) So the 1st team defense has seen every play the offense ran hundreds of times and I would bet knew exactly where the ball was going pre-snap. There waws a time when our offense was so dominant the defense could know where it was going and we still moved the chains...been decades though since that was the case.

3 I've been on VN a while so I know we do this every year. Itts fun to guess who the starters will be every year. For the first time in nearly a decade though I think WE HAVE A GREAT COACH and I fully believe in his plan and decision making. He will put the best man on the field regardless of public opinion.

GBO VFL. HUBAN

I don't know dude. In the recruiting thread you got a Guy blaming Azzani for dropped balls. Just saying.

Kicking game is horrible.

Actually, the entire kicking game is not horrible... only place kicking.

Palardy punted the ball extremely well last night. During that drill where he and Darr were punting to Young & Sutton, he really was consistently punting the ball high and long.

But I do agree, his FG attempts were very inconsistent.

Did they work on kick offs? If so, did they kick it deep or are still struggling to get it to the 10-15 yrd line?

Was Curt Maggitt out there last night? Really hoping he bounces back from the injury and has a monster year. We knew the kicking game was bad, but its frustrating to hear we seemed to have made zero progress. Didn't we have a kid that came in last year that people thought would compete with Palardy and he broke his leg in a freak accident in practice? Thanks ahead for any feedback.

Temper your expectations.
Any combo of QB and WRs is awful.
Will need a flat out awesome running game to meet expectations.

Our passing game talent is no worse then Florida's in 2012 (and probably 2013). They went 11-2 with an OLine not in the same class as UT's 2013 line.

The loss of Bray/CP/Hunter does not mean that UT has no passing attack.

Butch (an offensive X/Os guy) is a lot smarter than Dooley and Muschamp (a D coach) when it comes to getting 3* athletes in position to move the ball -- and now he's got 4* and 5*s to work with.

Before you go stick a fork in Palardy, remember it was raining yesterday and that does lower every kickers percentage. But yea it was disappointing. I suspect CBJ will be waterboarding him a few more times in FG situations. BTW how are Bullock, Toole and the other kickers/punters progressing along?

I thought Darr looked great last night, even when it was raining. He did shank 1 kick, but other than that, his punts had great hang time and were nice, tight spirals. Hopefully, though, he will be able to do that in games.

Was bray ever good in scrimmages? Wait until you see the guy play a game or two.

Some do not want Worley to succed for some reason, i was there he did pretty good against the #1D, he had receivers drop balls, he rolled out and completed a few passes, and he moved the team down the field against the #1D. GBO!

Based on "expert" observations of one practice and a couple of compliments thrown toward the Fr of course.

Better to hear from people that actually went to and watched the scrimmage than people that sat at home and hung out on the message board criticizing them.

I don't agree that people don't want him to succeed. I just think from what the public was allowed to see in the O&W game and last night's scrimmage it appeared Peterman improved while Worley stayed the same IMO. It just seems like Worley's ceiling may not be that high.

I was there for the whole thing, and I just thought Peterman looked better more comfortable. I don't care if its Worley,Peterman,Dobbs or the kid down the street,I just want to see my Vols back to winning form.

I don't think there is any VOLS fan who wants our probable starting quarterback to fail. I agree with you.

Doesn't matter who starts against Austin Peay, as soon as we lose our first game people will be screaming for one of the other three to come in.
