Orange Bowl line Tennessee + 6 1/2

I would love to see Milton throw for 400 yards and 6 TDs but I have a feeling all the weaknesses we saw last year will be exposed yet again. Everyone focuses on overthrows but that’s really just one of many issues he has. If he looks bad against Clemson it creates some concern going into next season unless they bring in a QB or Nico can be ready by game 1
This will be a good time to find out how much, if any, Milton has progressed since 2021. If he flops, it's probably going to be Jackson starting in '23. I've seen nothing thus far indicating that Milton will be the starting QB in '23, but that doesn't mean much. If he can't hack it at QB, he should move to TE. With his frame and athletic ability, it might be his best shot to make an NFL roster.

LV just wants to get bets on TN to start it off. That line will change several times before the game depending on how the betting goes. If 6.5 doesn't get enough bets on Vols they will increase it. If it gets too much they will decrease it to get more on Clemson. Just about the $. They don't care who wins.

Hard to say, considering not much is known about Clemson's backup QB, Klubinek. I take his performance against UNC with a grain of salt considering everything seemed to go Clemson's way that game and all he had to do was manage a wide lead. He did make some really nice plays that leave you concerned, but its alot different preparing and going into a game as the starter. The real pressure is on and many times these types of performances are followed up by humbling games.

At the same time, I don't expect our running game to perform anywhere near as well as it did in the Vandy game against Clemson. We broke off long run after long run and Milton really didn't have to do much of anything. And that is sort of concerning considering Vandy is one of 5 teams with a statistically worse passing defense as us. and Clemson has a really good rushing defense, 10th in the nation. Also, is Hyatt opting out? We have yet to find out.

So, there are a few unknowns and this game could play out either way. But I think bettors are more hopeful that Klubinek will perform better against our bottom 5 pass defense (since everyone does) than Milton will against their's. That may be especially true if Clemson's top 10 rushing defense stifles our running attack and our offense needs Milton to make big throws on 3rd and long. In that regard its not a great matchup for us. So I can understand why Clemson are near TD favorites against us at the moment. I think we lose this one something like 34-41.
The fact we ran so much vs Vandy had nothing to do with Milton it was 100% weather. But funny enough that actually makes the performance that much more impressive because they knew the run was coming and still got gashed 6x on the ground .

The secondary unit needs to come out and play with some pride given what happened last year in the Bowl game.

I didn't think they could ever play worse, then came SC. I don't which game was worse, both were basic no-shows. How do you do that with so much on the line at SC?

This question unfortunately will be asked in the the same way as “how do you lose to a backup quarterback and a second string running back w/ a trip to the National Title on the line?”

The more I’ve thought about it, the South Carolina game belongs in the same conversation as 2001 LSU.

I would agree. Hopefully they will run the full offense against Clemson and see what he can or can’t do in a big game setting. If he still isn’t ready then hopefully they can get Nico or Jackson ready for next season

I politely disagree.

DJU was a disaster on Clemson's first 2 drives. 7 plays, 2 for 5, the only 1st down was by penalty. UNC was up 7-0 when Dabo out Klubnik in.

Four series later at halftime, Clemson was up 24-7. You can absolutely tell the difference in confidence from Clemson's offense when Klubnik is in.

The bottom line is that Clemson's offense can score with Klubnik in. They have 2 defensive starter opt outs, but they are deep at DL and linebacker.

The Vols opt outs (Hyatt and Tillman) hurt a lot worse. Milton is much better than last year, but he's not as accurate as Hooker.

Clemson's pass defense is average, but ours is bad. Their run game is very good.
It will take some breaks for the Vols to win this one.

Also, at first of Vandy game a 60 yarder before it started pouring rain.
What's funny is that ball was about 5 yards under thrown. And rain is no excuse for that day. Football is played regularly in the rain/snow. It's not an excuse to be bad.

But it sure is an excuse to hate on Joe, right? Why else do his detractors keep relentlessly posting negatives about him?

Me? Until proven otherwise, I think Javelin Joe is going to disintegrate the Clemson secondary. I'm a Vols fan who dares to believe when others can't or refuse to do so.

Some would possibly go as far to give Joe credit to do as well as he did given the conditions. You can’t truthfully deny that rain and wind don’t affect the game, excuses or not they are both a factor.

You underestimate the desire of that faction of Vols-player haters, CornDont, vastly underestimate them. It's ingrained into their DNA by Bama gene editors, with the assistance of Gator gene splicers, and Bulldawg genome sequencers. The haters just can't help themselves, poor things. Here are the triad of gene-criminals right here:

I hope you are right. But, so far, I see nothing that indicates Milton can make Heupel's offense run near as efficiently as Hooker. If Milton can't sustain drives, our D will be toast.

I believe for every drop of rain that falls
A flower grows
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night
A candle glows
I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come
To show the way
I believe, I believe

You can "believe" whatever you want but it doesn't make you more of a fan. It just means you are being ignorant to reality. We all hope Milton has a great game and would love nothing but for him to bounce back after getting benched twice.

But he was really off in the Vandy game and Hyatt played that time. Vandy has a bottom 5 in the nation passing defense as well. On the other hand Clemson has a top 10 overall defense. I hope the staff can have a better game plan for Milton this game than last which mostly consisted chucking it deep. But until proven otherwise why set such high expectations?
