First, I said traditional home unis. If you polled the college football world, I think you'd have over 95% that would respond orange over white with white helmets is UT's traditional home uni. Yes, there is a tradition of orange pants but it's not the uni that most folks associate with the Vols. My only point is even with the recent struggles that all elite programs have gone thru, UT is program that has a national identity and doesn't have to be like the Oregons and SoCars of the college football world that creates buzz by showing up in a different color combo every week.
The first college football game I ever attended was UT vs OM in 1968 (Archie was my idle) and even though I've never been a Tenn fan, it's a program I grew up following and respecting. Yeah, I'm old and a fairly traditional guy and realize the kids today want flash but even the flash can become mundane when it becomes the norm. So, when I think of UT vs Bama or UGA or LSU, etc. there is a picture in my mind of how all the teams will look and it's a pretty darn good picture.
