Why? Just because he is an instate kid? I don't buy it. If we are full and some highly talented players like Sweat or Lodge want in its entirely possible Bruce could be asked to go somewhere else. I think Jones took his commitment as insurance anyway. Same with Woods.

We aren't getting Lodge. Sweat is a longshot. There are a lot more reasonable scenarios to throw out iyam.

Bruce isn't going anywhere without him effing up. He recently said in an interview that he's being recruited as a slot but he might keep adding weight until he can only play RB. That's effing up if he follows through with that. It's not because he's an instate guy, it's because he's an in town guy that was recently offered. If there was a chance we wouldn't want him we wouldn't have offered.

Woods on the other hand...

If there are any surprises, it will be for the 2016 class. Numbers are getting very tight for 2015 and of those possibly ready to commit at this time, i am not sure there are many takes, unless it involves the CB position.

All indications say Bruce and Reid are doing the right things and IMO will be Vols. Woods seems to have some work to do to keep his spot.

The simple math says when you can't back count any to the previous classes, the max number you can take is 25. With Swafford taking a scholarship and Weatherd looking like he will make it in, the max number for 2015 is 24, not 27.

Good post. I believe a lot of our fan base is just getting * struck and are actually falling into a mindset that any recruit rated 4* or higher mentions Tennessee, and we had better "make room". All you can do is laugh. :p

CBJ knows where he stands with the recruits on the board. He takes commitments from kids who help him get to his goal of fielding an SEC top caliber team on and off the field. People overly concerned with the *'s, are just setting themselves up to see a lot of guys "we need to make room for" go elsewhere.

Leb guy or whatever ur name is... 24 is not the number and your thought-process is completely wrong. 25 is the max allowed per SEC. Backcounting means unused schollies from past years... but have you took into consideration overall team numbers and early graduation. We have 5 early graduates... which counts for 2 more scholarships because of the total number of athletes will be below 80. I don't wanna argue but my man, it's not as simple as ok 25, gave one away so 24. no hard feelings btw brotha.

Yeahh...Uncle Buck, or whatever YOUR name is...we took 32 last year and that was with max backcounting...Butch is creative but the numbers are what they are...AND we're going to owe Jumper a scholarship before next year...btw you don't register as a human until you get to 500 posts, so feelings aren't a factor. :yess:

Of course I took into account total roster number. That current number is 81. Pay attention now.

4 spots that would get us to the 85. Add to that the number of SRs this year. That number is 12. 12+4=16. There are NO back counting available this year as the staff took everything thing they had available last class. Today, the number we can sign is 16. It does look like the staff will take a full class permitted by the SEC which is 25 minus 1 for the scholarship awarded to Swafford. That makes the max number 24. 24(max class for 2015)-16 current spots= 8 more kids will need to leave UT or be forced out to even take 24 kids in 2015.

It is what it is.

Could, for example, Riley Ferguson's scholarship not be given to Swafford, which would permit us to take the max of 25? Ignorance on my part.

Butch will find a way to sign how ever many he wants. No one knows that number or his plan until NSD 15.

Riley leaving is figured into the 4 spots to get to the 85. The current number of 16 today accounts for Riley walking. I don't think we were at 85 when Swafford was given the scholarship so IF they could have used an open spot for him in a past class, IMO they would have. I'm not sure why, but everything I have read says Swafford's scholarship comes off the 2015 class number.

IIRC a walk on receiving a scholarship within his first year on campus counts against the 25 number.

It might even be two years.

There is someone within the athletic dept whose job is strictly to know the rule book cover to cover. The job also consists of finding every loophole to sign as many recruits as possible. I had a family member interview within the football dept last year and talked to this guy personally. He basically said his job is to find every way to make the numbers work and do everything you can within loopholes without breaking the rules.

Don't forget greyshirting or blueshirting. 24 is the MAX we can SIGN. There could be a couple who could be on those plans...like the punter or the LSnapper or Bruce.
