Oregon of the south ?

So a recruit had a interview after his visit he said " the coaches told him Nike wants to make Tennessee the Oregon of the south "

Probably meant uniform wise only. Equipment companies don't dictate offensive or defensive schemes to coaching staffs.

As long as the power T stays relevant in the uniform mix then let's see.

Equipment companies sometimes put offensive uniforms on the field.

I'm not sure why this didn't occur to me earlier, but I'd definitely like to see the link where the OP is getting this info from.

Sounds good to me! The kids around my park all come up to me when I wear my Tennessee stuff at work. They say how much they like Tennessee and how they want to play football for UT. I really credit this to Butch. There is rekindled excitement about UT in Atlanta for sure.

I was resistant to the idea when uniform changes first came up a few years ago. Years of losing has altered my opinion a bit though. If we can start beating our rivals again I don't really care if they do it in ballerina outfits.

I always find it funny how many people on threads like these state "If we change our uniforms, I'm done being a fan of Tennessee." That statement is so ridiculous. A uniform has that much sway over your love of the Vols?

I'm big on traditions

I like traditions, but I also wouldn't mind seeing some tasteful changes either. Especially because recruits love snazzy unis, and if we make some sweet changes and land even more top ranked recruits for it then I'm all good. Recruits love sweet unis, recruits win games, fans LOVE winning. A+B+C=Win.

Well, you sounded like you were 10 years old in your post

Sorry to confuse you for a prepubescent teen

I was unaware that you could hear how I sounded in my post since there is no audio, but I understand the point you were trying to make. I kid, I kid

People forget that Oregon's "traditional" look before they got KNIGHTED was some Donald Duck garish green and yellow mockup...they had nothing to work with....So they BLEW IT UP....Nike has pretty much embraced the traditional route with schools that have good clean styles ala Bama and USC...we'll still have a sharp traditional uniform to cheer for...if there are any alternate versions,I'm sure it will be a variation with highlights....not cartoon houndogs or coonskin hat wearing Volunteer riflemen :peace2:

Those unis with Donald duck on the helmet were much better. Recruits have no taste these days

Oregon may be fast and quick, but they're probably not as fast and quick as they look. It's their uniforms that make them look that way.

It's the same psychology that applies to the team in the white uniforms. They may not be bigger than their opponents but they sure LOOK bigger.

I'll be interested in seeing the new uniforms. I want them to remain traditional for the most part, but some changes might be nice, even if purely to get in the heads of our opponents.

Anyone who says "I'm done" or "I won't be a fan anymore" etc... is 100% lying.

Because they weren't a fan to begin with.

As long as the men who wear that T on their helmet like what they are wearing, our opinions should come in second place.

Way too early to know what the change to Nike is going to look like in full, but you should expect what most teams have from them. That is, a slight overhaul that keeps the traditional look, but gives the school a custom letter and number font, like what they did for Georgia when their new contract started before last season, with the font being applied to uniforms and branding in all sports. For football, you'll see a traditional look for the home and road and a different alternate each year. Might see the Smokey Gray become more standard in terms of mixing/matching gray pants with the standard home and road looks.

The numbers won't be ridiculous like UGAs will they?

All for it. I have to admit, most of Oregon's unis were awesome.
Yep. The old fogey's here are just going to have to suck it up and drive on. It's funny they fuss that appearances don't matter, but then they come unglued at the mere suggestion of a change. :loco: Try to wrap your brain around that one.

This is true, but Maryland fans have had to have some pretty thick skin in recent years, with their apparent attempt to be the Oregon of the East Coast.

Honestly, anything to separate us from the rest is fine with me... as long as it leads to more positive publicity, better recruiting, and/or more wins.
