I never thought fellow Vol fans could get on my nerves so much...In every aspect of the game there is so much negativity. Coaching sucks, current players give up and lack heart, our recruiting class won't stick...

Blah blah blah.

Why don't you shut up, grow some patience, and give this process some time?

Here's some news for you... Nick Saban's first year at Michigan state he went 6-5-1. His first year at Alabama he went 2-6.

Our beloved Johnny Majors went 4-7 and 5-5-1 in his first two years at Tennessee.

Les Miles went 4-7 his first year at Oklahoma State.

Pete Carrol went 6-6 his first year at USC.

Jim Tressel went 7-5 his first year at Ohio State.

Bobby Bowden went 5-6 his first year at Florida State.

The list goes on. This is a rebuilding process... We all know what Butch inherited from Dooley and Kiffin. I know we are Tennessee and I hear it all the time..."This is the University of Tennessee! This shouldn't be tolerated!"

You're right! And it isn't being tolerated... hence the changes being made albeit if the changes take some time to take affect.

The recruits are coming. Come NSD I will bet anyone on VN that we finish with a full class of at least 30 and have a top 10 class...possibly better.

Take a deep breath and remember as the old saying goes "The night is darkest just before the dawn."

I guess awesome coaches lose to Vandy with two weeks to prepare.

keep rollin' rollin' rollin' these excuses out there.

Georgia Southern went into the swamp and won with way less talent. They actually coached their players.

UT had two weeks to prepare for Jordan Matthews, I mean Vandy, and still looked lost..

Big East football.

There is a difference between excuses and legitimate reasons. And I can't wait until the rational fans make you nay-sayers eat your words in the years to come.

The law of averages is not in Jones' favor

More coaches fail than succeed. That's why you have to pay so much for a great one

If anyone could be plugged in to do the job, they would be making minimum wage

Great post OP! If I was you I would not hold my breath waiting on this fan base to act rational, especially after a loss. Heck we have so called fans sending players death threats...SMDH

The bottom line is we will know by year three whether he is worth keeping around. I am not saying by any means next year is a pass because it isn't (in fact there needs to be significant improvement in year two i.e. coaching, player development, play calling, sustained success in recruiting etc.) but UT gave Doolander three years CBJ deserves as much.

No reasons or excuses change our record

If the only place you look to see progress is the win-loss record, especially in a coach's first year taking over a dismal program then you don't know squat about college football.

I'm not saying wins aren't important. And in the future, that's exactly what will be used to measure the success of Coach Jones. But progress starts with recruiting in college football. And last time I checked we will have the best recruiting class we've had since 2007 when Eric Berry was part of the class. And personally, I think this class will be even better than that one.

Losing sucks... but in the mean time just sit back and watch the show.

I have never posted on here before and probably won't again but I would like to say a few things.

1. I traveled 10 hours on Friday to watch my beloved Vols play Saturday night and not once did I question a coaching decision or the players effort simply because I am a fan and a supporter of the whole football team regardless of the outcome. I will never not support them because they are my team regardless of outcome.

2. Coach Jones will get the job done. How do I know this? Because the current players play hard for him and respect him, unlike the previous two coaches that were here. Examples J. James, D. Hood, and M. Palardy comments. I also know this because if the recruits didn't believe this they wouldn't commit to the Vols. Why is this different? Because there are numerous 2014 recruits that are legacies here and their fathers/relatives would not let their sons come be part of failure just because they attended here and were successful. Obviously they see something in Coach Jones that we do not get to see.

3. Give the coaches a break. Maybe they did get outcoached Saturday night, maybe they didn't. They are human beings and do make mistakes. The people on these boards act like they are perfect and have all of the answers. No one is perfect and they will continue to make mistakes just like the players will. Give the staff some time to develop the "KIDS."

4. The only issues with our team is depth and speed. You have to remember that Dooley recruited players for a 3-4 defense that were meant to stop power teams such as UGA and UF. Power football is a thing of the past. We play spread teams with a ton of speed which we don't have. The speed differential out there is crazy. We have walk-ons on defense, Alabama's whole 2nd team defense could come here and start.

As a fan, I want to win just as mush as anyone. As a realist and a high school football coach myself, I understand what I am seeing every Saturday. Time will tell about this staff and football team. As for me, I will continue to be the biggest Vol fan in Delaware.

What you posted are not legitimate reasons.

This staff underperformed the talent they had. They lost at least one game they should have won and were completely uncompetitive in 4 others.

Can they turn it around? We all hope so because we have Jones for at least 3 years. But all the excuse making in the world will not change the simple fact that they did not coach this team well. It did not achieve anything close to its potential nor did it improve over the course of the season. Those two things are absolutely necessary regardless of what level of talent you have... and they are 100% related to coaching and coaching decisions.

They may be higher coming in. But Berry's class is hard to match with how they panned out.

I hear ya man. I really do. And no one likes losing... especially when you are used to winning.

But what are we supposed to do? Fire every coach who has a bad year in their first year?

What if Alabama did that with Saban?

I suppose we could try to hire an already proven coach but do you really think the Nick Sabans of football will leave their pretty pedestal for a struggling program like ours?

Butch Jones didn't have head coach experience the SEC, but he has is a successful coach. And most importantly, he WANTED to be here and shows it every single day. To me, that's worth giving the man at least the same amount of time Dooley got.

Sorry but no. "Depth and speed" did not cost UT the Vandy game. UT is deeper, faster, and more talented than Vandy... and it ain't close.

That is also not the reason UT got beaten like an FCS team by Oregon, Bama, Mizzou, and Auburn.

Never liked you til now Volcula. You're a realist VN needs a touch more of.

I agree with what volcula said... wins matter most in the end.

But we aren't at the end yet, are we? In the mean time, keep winning the recruiting game and have the best offseason possible.
