Our DB's are going to have to learn to look back

This has been discussed many times and the general consensus seems to be that they are coached to focus on the receiver instead of the ball. Sometimes it works but when it doesn’t, in my opinion, it looks pretty bad. Case in point from Saturday with Hadden: On one play he got burned by the receiver but the ball was underthrown. Ended up being a PI call because he was turned facing the receiver and all over him trying to throw him off. If he had simply been playing the ball, that’s an INT. On his best play of the game imo, he turned around and jumped for the ball, great INT!

The AP player that ran into Squirrel on an underthrown ball didn't get called for PI, but Hadden did for basically the same thing. I would like the refs to tell my why. I heard someone say "maybe he started to turn his head". Well, starting to and actually doing it are two different things. IMHO.

No No! You don't understand...they are TAUGHT to NOT look back for the ball and run through the WR causing a pass interference. At least that is what I read /sarcasm

My theory on this one is : Our DBs are not fast enough and are bad. Turning head would lead them getting burned bad by the receiver so Martinez teaches them to focus on WR instead.

I know it sounds bad but I can't come up with any other explanation on why Martinez's DBs never turn head. It happened even during the Butch Era.

So I see somebody read my post about Hadden not looking back for the ball. The first time he does; INT! What are they teaching the DBs?

We're getting too many penalties from our DB guys. This will come back to haunt us.
Did you watch the game? Hadden has been primary target by teams as he is an almost guaranteed pass interference call....til.....wait he turned around ,no surprise in front of our bench, and had an interception. OH MY!!!

Then Willie Martinez might need fired

I’ve had a feeling for a while that this might be Martinez last season here. It’s even more obvious when you consider that he is the ONLY coach that on this team who didn’t get an extension this past offseason. It’s a make it or break it year for Willie. I’m sure he’s a great guy but we’ve not had a good secondary since he’s been here and I think we’re better off moving on from him.

At least one of those and probably both should not have been called. Those are routinely no calls. Arguably both should have been ruled uncatchable... which is the only reason I can see that the one against Squirrel wasn't called.... though he probably could have made a play if the guy hadn't run into him more easily than the AP WR could have.

The announcers called it right. Both balls were badly underthrown. DBs are taught to read the reaction of the WR to know when to turn their heads. I don't think the WR on either play put their hands up or made actions preparing to catch the ball. They just slowed down and he ran into them. Tough breaks. Probably a couple of other instances of bad officiating. Not necessarily indicative of him not playing as DBs are taught to play.

I’ve been anti martinez for years and been flamed every single time. He sucks turning around for the ball is that not the most basic damn thing you’re taught?
Tennessee’s coaching of the DB’s is less than desirable on any level
