Overconfidence - We are 3 last second plays away from being 3-3

I promise, while some fans may be overlooking and underrating some opponents, the coaches and players are not. They have taken a 1 week approach all year. I have commented to several people about this, while a lot of coaches say it, Tennessee actually demonstrates the players have bought into the approach. They will take UT Martin just as serious as they took Bama, just as serious as they will take UK, just as serious as they take UGA, etc. Everybody has their heads on straight, and the leadership on the team and from the coaches is absolutely stellar.
I hope you're correct because overconfidence is a recipe for losing and we still have some tough games ahead.

Just enjoy the moment and appreciate what a departure this season is from the previous fifteen. Every championship season is built on breaks, luck, and plays that could have gone the other way. These are a part of winning. Why focus on that instead of the huge plays our team made throughout each game. Some fans seem to be incapable of enjoying success.

In years past those were 3 plays we werent making.

As mentioned Bama is in the same boat. Georgia is in a similar boat with Mizzou.

Our record is perfect, the team doesnt have to be. Our talent isnt to the point where we should expect to win every game comfortably. Bama has better talent than us, and the best coach in the nation, I will take a one play victory. Florida has similar talent, and we are quadruple jinxed vs them, I will take a one play victory. Pitt we played before they fell apart, this is the only one I really feel like we should have won by more, but I wont complain about the results.

Underconfidence and expecting bad things to happen can also be a cause of losing. This team has been winning BECAUSE they have expected to win each game, and keep expecting to win even when breaks went ahainst them. YOUR approach is a recipe for losing, and likely a result of PTSD/ BVS.

Unless you play or coach none of this matters. There is no such thing as rat poison for fans. Just freaking enjoy the ball bouncing our way for once. We are a legit team and there is no doubt about it.
Wait, you mean the players don't look to this message board to see what sort of mindset they should have for a game?

Only at UT would some fans be stupid enough to tear up their own field and the following week Hendon Hooker blows out a knee or ankle after slipping in a hole or on loose sod that was thrown down to cover the holes left by those dumbasses.
Good Lord. Why are some people such buzz kills?

We are one qb injury away from disaster, we might very easily be 3-3 this year, and we probably should've lost to kentucky last year....but you think we are the best team in the country?

I agree (and I think our team would agree) that we can't overlook anyone, but this post is all over the map.
Nope, because JM3 is gonna roll right in and take us to the promised land. GTFO Negavol

I'm $9,999,999 from being a multi-millionaire. If that 6 had just been a 9. If that 43 had just been a 46. If that 23 had just been a 29. If that 12 had just been a 15....

I really don’t think there’s anything to worry about, I believe this team is locked in & knows it is a week to week process to accomplish their goals.

We are all admittedly on cloud 9 right now. For many of us younger fans, this is the best time to be a Vol fan in our lifetime. Saturday was no doubt euphoric. That said, I’ve read a lot and listened to some fans on social media and radio and many are acting as if we are now invincible. This is only a segment of fans but it seems to be a big portion. Too many of us are partaking of the RAT POISON!

Crash and burn is the worst feeling. While I don’t believe that is going to happen, we have to remember that we have literally won 3 games on the last play of the game. While UGA is the biggest game left and will be our final real obstacle before the SECCG, we gotta take KY seriously as well. Why are so many overlooking them? They have a bunch of dudes that will play on Sundays, 2 weeks to rest, a stout D, and have the best RB in the league. We only beat them by 3 last year (and we likely would have lost if the refs had caught the Levis face mask). There’s a reason the line is only -5.5. We all saw Missouri almost pulled an upset on UGA.

Perspective is important. We are one QB injury away from disaster. So for those who believe they should just go ahead and hand us the title, I simply suggest to enjoy this time but slow your roll so we all don’t look like fools to the world if we slip up. Other SEC fan bases would love nothing more than to see us crash and burn now. That said, I believe we are the best team in the country and this ride is amazing! I will talk so much smack come December if we get to and win in Atlanta. But for now, one week at a time is the way to get to the promised land.

GBO!
Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia.... All are a qb injury away from disaster. That's the differentiator from teams in the current era.

I see what you are saying, but I look at it as more resiliency than anything else. It's easy to lay down when you get punched in the mouth, but this team refuses to stay down.

OP actually makes some good points. There is a fine line between winning and losing, and so far this year, the Vols are fortunate to have come out on the right side of that line. Fortunately, overconfidence among the fans doesn't matter, and I trust this coaching staff to keep the guys hungry. They know without a doubt if they get complacent, this magical season could go south.

Reminds me of another team of destiny. Syracuse had us beat in the first game of the season. Arkansas had us beat in the weaning minutes. Ifs

Yeah and in 1998 we were a PI call against Syracuse and a QB fumble vs. Arkansas away from having two losses. Sports involves luck, in case you haven't learned that yet. And I'm not predicting we will win the national championship by any means, but I'm just pointing out that the line between success and failure in sports is a fine one.

And if we don’t let off the gas against UF it’s a two score win, if Tillman doesn’t drop a TD pass against Pitt we win in regulation instead of OT, and if Keyton keeps running his route we win by a couple scores against Bama. It’s all depends on how you want to look at it.

We are 1 QB injury away from disaster? Based on what? By all accounts it looks like Milton has improved. This post is dumb.

this

the difference in this team vs some in the past is we don't quit until the game ends

most coaches we've had would have taken a knee and went into overtime with Bama saturday, but not this one... we had 20 seconds... plenty of time to score

Very well said, and I totally agree. The way we kept bouncing back and especially the last drive is the mark of a real chamionship team. If we bring our A game, we can beat anyone. Just have to bring it every game and don't overlook any team.

OP has a point. As fans we can be on cloud 9 and we can afford to be and deserve it. But the players and coaching staff had better take KY seriously and not be over confident. I believe they will so enjoy this while is lasts.

I am old enough to remember the Ole Miss game years ago when we had a top ranked team and Ole Miss was trash. One of our players called Ole Miss a bunch of mules. We went to Oxford and got beat 38-0.

I remember that game, if I am not mistaken Archie Manning was Ole Miss qb. Some remarks were also made such as Archie who?
