A conference made up of teams from CA and TX would not be good for the SEC imo.

Haven't seen this posted elsewhere, and found a few snippets pretty interesting:

The Pac-10 Conference Meetings are scheduled to get underway this weekend (appropriately enough, in San Francisco), where they will be, "prepared to make a bold move and invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado to join its league, according to multiple sources close to the situation."

"The thought is the Big 16 (or whatever they decide for the name) would start its own television network that could command premium subscriber dollars from cable providers on par with the Big Ten Network and pay out upwards of $20 million to each of the 16 schools in TV revenue."

"Such a merger between the six Big 12 schools and the Pac-10 would build a conference with seven of the country's top 20 TV markets (Los Angeles, Dallas, San Francisco, Houston, Phoenix, Seattle and Sacramento)."

"Those projected TV revenues would double the current payouts of roughly $9 million to Big 12 and Pac-10 members. If the Big 16 reached its projections, the league would also surpass the SEC's projected payout of $17 million per school reached in a 15-year TV deal with ABC/ESPN and CBS signed in 2008."

"An invitation from the Pac-10 will be hard for the six Big 12 schools being targeted not to consider. Why? Because Fox Cable Networks (a division of News Corporation), which serves as the chief operating partner of the successful Big Ten Network, appears ready to make the Big 16 Network happen."

Both the Pac-10 and the Big-12 have television deals coming up for negotiations in 2011.....each with Fox.

Murmurings in TX that SEC academics are not up to snuff, and that an SEC invite wouldn't even be considered.

"There is also reason to believe Oklahoma could be enamored with joining the SEC. But that does not appear to be an option Texas officials would be willing to consider. There is a sense among UT officials the academics in the SEC are not on par with Texas.
If A&M and Oklahoma were to splinter off and join the SEC, the Pac-10 would obviously have to revise its invite list."

"Surprisingly, the (TX) Legislature doesn't appear to be an obstacle for the state's two biggest schools to split off into separate conferences, although that is not an ideal situation for either school. If A&M opted to head to the SEC and Texas opted to go elsewhere, there is a very good chance Texas would no longer play the Aggies in any sports."

"The Pac-10 doesn't want to waste time by going out on dates with the Big 12 with a non-conference football scheduling alliance. It wants to take half of the Big 12 and get married. Now, we'll see, who, if anyone, meets them at the altar."

Our TV contract is awful, but the flight out to L.A. for a 12:30 kick off would be too.

Plus I'd have to mingle with all you tree hugging hippies. Im sure you're ok, but .... you know how it goes.

you probably wouldn't have to travel to either more than once every four years since we'd likely be in different divisions. and if you guys played SC nonconference i'm sure you'd be excited for it.

link from where these snippets are coming from

kinda odd too considering the Big 12 and Pac 10 just last month had those meetings in which the two conferences agreed on partnership

edit: just saw the link included

I would love nothing more than to have Kiffin and company come to Kyle Field for a night game.

We have a lot of history with the Pac10. Most of its bad though. I'd rather form a new version of the South West Conference like they had years ago.

I believe I read in Stuart Mandel's book that the Pac 10 has had their eye on Texas and A&M since the 80s.

They're more interested in Texas Im sure, but we are a package deal regardless.

I cant believe they want Colorado though. Tech either.

Colorado to the PAC makes total sense. It's been thoroughly discussed here.

colorado is a major media market and is a top research university (which is something the pac-10 cares about). tech i guess because it's in texas? personally i very much doubt this is going to happen anyway.

Clay Travis has mentioned that the SEC has also been talking to Texas and Texas A&M. If they were to get an invite from both SEC and Pac-10, I can't imagine them going to the Pac-10. Better regional and cultural fit, and also probably a better money fit.

Colorado sucks. Its a lateral move for them. The PAC10 gains nothing. And no, dont talk to me about the "Denver Media Market". They're not watching the Buffs. They're watching something else. They'll get their butts whipped just like they did in the BIG12. Stanford will hang the speed limit on them.

The only thing anyone will gain is, going to the Mountains every few years and getting wrecked with coeds that are majoring in beer pong and see-thru panties.

they haven't always sucked. A&M didnt' always suck either (sorry that was mean). stanford will never be a major program. ever. they wont ever spend the money or lower their standards.

A local sports station in Nashville (104.5) was discussing this a little bit ago. Brent said he had heard one of the 6 schools being offered (Texas A & M) had reservations because they stated they had in depth discussions with the SEC. (It was still all rumor but interesting.)

yes but the sec isn't going to take oklahoma et all and texas might want to keep that rivalry.

Once again a very interesting scenario...if this happens, and the Big 10 grabs Mizzou, Neb, Rutgers, Pitt and ND.

Then the SEC will be left scrambling for the likes of VT, GT, Clemson, FSU and Miami.

Colorado needs to go to the MWC and call it done. Either that, or just "Go play intramurals."
