Pac-10 Expansion (merged)

Yes, they are. In terms of athletic dept money, we are talking Florida or Texas level. The fan base and tv ratings they command is huge.

Can someone explain this to me? If Nebraska leaves the Big 12, the conference is dead. If Colorado and Missouri leave, but Nebraska stays, the Big 12 will soldier on by adding BYU and Air Force. Is Nebraska really that valuable?

Yup.

Nebraska came pretty close to playing for this year's NC...even though that was a TERRIBLE game...

Nebraska almost earned Tcu a chance at bama.

when watching the game, i was pretty sure the annoucer stated that whoever won the Big 12 championship would go and play Bama. I might be wrong though?

okay then. That meant the championship would've been even easier for Bama...lol

I think there'd be enough decent pieces to make it 5 super conferences. I think, if I was the MWC, I'd be all over Boise, Kansas, and Kansas St.

But really, wtf does this do to Kansas basketball? They're functionally conference-less.

I agree could be 5 my point is if it is 4 or 5 then they could set the ground rules for BCS or playoffs.
They would basiclly tie up all or at less most of the TV and bowl monies.
Possibly NCAA mens and womens basketball touraments.

"Not so fast my friend."

I don't get it, as a Big 12 member wouldn't you agree that you all are better than the MWC? I mean, the last 3 BCS games have been the SEC vs Big 12. The MWC don't play really anybody I think.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. If Florida decided to go play in the ACC because they are a member of the AAU. The SEC would just fold?

If this is true what do you guys think 4 super conferences?

Pac-10(or 16)
Big-10(or 14-16)
SEC-12(16)
ACC

I think there'd have to be another conference (even if slightly lesser) too...I'm not sure only 4 consolidates or gives homes to all the teams left over in the reminant Big 12 and reminant Big East though, does it?

It's interesting that every report on this subject is coming from a Texas Longhorn website. "we tried everything to save the Big 12". Good grief.

Last year TCU was definitely the most deserving team in the nation behind Texas. Most people have little doubt that if Texas lost that game, some serious chaos would have ensued, TCU would have had a real shot at playing Bama for the title and that nat'l champ berth would have been one of the most hotly contested since the inception of the BCS.

And the last 2 BCS games were BXII-SEC, 2007 was LSU over tOSU.

No but considering Florida is basically the flagship of the SEC right now, it would be a huge blow.

more of a defensive one

but since everyone's already said it, no they weren't. they had already lost 3 games before that

No doubt it would be a big blow, but you pick up another team and cut them in on the revenue and move on. This reeks of Texas wanting to call itself the "Stanford" of the southwest. When the SWC expanded from 8 to 12, the sole purpose was to kick the SEC in the jimmy, it didn't work then and it's not going to work now.

There are only 4 former SWC teams in the Big 12.

I may be a little off on my history, but the point is the same. Texas is still gonna be Texas and USC is still gonna be USC but richer. Texas Tech and Oregon St might not be better off at all. The added bonus for us, the cake walk to a BCS game won't be as easy for them anymore. Texas playing in the Rose Bowl...whooooopie!

True. Texas will still be the same program that has won all of two conference titles in Mack Brown's tenure.

I read a few hours ago that the Pac-16, or whatever the hell their calling it wants two automatic BCS berths w/o a championship game. If Texas joins the Pac-whatever it is combined with the USC post season ban could make a tempting offer.
