Pac-10 Expansion (merged)

Some intense stuff going on...I for one am excited about it and would much rather have 4 power confrences that all had championship games than all the wishy washyness going on now adays.

easy to say when you are in a conference with all the power.
If the PAC 10 teams cared as much, they'd be better. The teams just need to spend money and refuse to settle for mediocrity. Exposure and money are great, no doubt, but it's not really any benefit to get killed on national TV by your rivals every year.

You know what though

At the end of all of this, even if Mizzou and Neb give there word to stay, I would not be surprised the slightest if afterwards Colorado were to jump ship for the Pac-10 still.

They just feel like they've been in a, i dunno, working both sides position where their goal's been to go regardless

chicken and egg argument. if you dont' have the money to spend you can't "refuse to settle for mediocrity."

I was upset when they took out margin of victory to appease Ohio State.

mixed feelings on that one. There's no reason though a team should have to run up the score in a game to guarantee better placement.

I think I remember reading in something right after the 98 season Fulmer saying about one of the games that they really didn't need to keep scoring (it was one of those well out of reach games) but they didn't want that margin of victory factor to count against them (that or they were worried b/c they weren't sure about how that margin of victory would count so they had to keep scoring)

was the margin of victory thing changed because of ohio state? or was it because of like oregon or like that miami thing?

Quality wins though I thought made sense

A guy from orangebloods.com just reported on ESPN that Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St. and Colorado are expected to join the Pac-10 to form the nation's first super conference beginning play in 2012. Looks like it just took one domino to fall to start the process, if this in fact true.

If this is true what do you guys think 4 super conferences?

Pac-10(or 16)
Big-10(or 14-16)
SEC-12(16)
ACC

Can someone explain this to me? If Nebraska leaves the Big 12, the conference is dead. If Colorado and Missouri leave, but Nebraska stays, the Big 12 will soldier on by adding BYU and Air Force. Is Nebraska really that valuable?

I think there'd be enough decent pieces to make it 5 super conferences. I think, if I was the MWC, I'd be all over Boise, Kansas, and Kansas St.

But really, wtf does this do to Kansas basketball? They're functionally conference-less.

I saw a decent article the other day where schools like Kansas, Memphis, Louisville, Cinnci, etc. that are primarily basketball focused start a new conference a la the Big East.

Worth thinking about anyway.

I guess I'm having a hard time believing that Nebraska going to the Big 10 makes it necessary for the Big 12 to dissolve. I think Texas is trying to hang this on them.
