Parting ways with recruits.

You recruit guys early because it gives you an advantage in the long run if you were one of the first big-time programs to offer. You don't beat out programs like UGA, BAMA, UF, LSU, etc. by showing up late to the party. Not on a consistent basis anyways.

Sometimes the guys we recruit early don't pan out. That's the cost of doing business.

But please - continue to bless us with your superior knowledge. Blue font.

Deep5

Those guys we have committed early that aren't highly rated have succeeded for us at a very low rate. I put a detailed list in another thread. 25% is a very generous rate for that

It's those lower rated kids we commit later in the process that have been very successful. IMO it's because we have the senior year to evaluate the kid.

We are elite and don't have to recruit like we aren't. We don't have to be the first to offer. We don't need to do rush our evals on lower ranked kids. Our roster proves that

Problem is.....they already know. It's been said adnauseum to them. They don't care, they just want to spew garbage, hoping to be noticed.

Then.....I have to come into a thread that is filled with nothing but "This message is hidden because (Insert Name here) is on your ignore list."

Think of the rest of us man.

Over 100 on my list, & I don't miss one!

Too bad we can't get freak to drop some of our lower ranked posters. Bruin= 1 star

Where are you ranked as a poster? How do you know you're safe?

I hope I'm not dropped. I think of myself as an under evaluated 2* with potential!🤑

How the heck are GA and AU getting so many top recruits? They both sucked this year, one has a new staff, and the other's seat is getting warm based on this past season. AU has three top rated WRs....

Quite simple.... The same way we did the past two years! Playing time is a key factor when talking to young recruits! On the other hand... Championships are key as well.... Seems to have been working well in our direction.

I understand it, get it and still dont like it. I dont need you starting a new thread telling me what I can and cant like.
I dont care what UGA or anyone else does, I hold my school like I try to hold myself to a higher standard.

Really velo, come on the only standard that matters is winning. If CBJ takes 22 commitments and then dropped 11 like hot potatoes to get 11 "better" players that is exactly what he should do. We pay him good money to win games. There will be VN members on here next fall calling for his job if we go 10-2 regular season. That is stupid, but it will happen, and you know I am correct.

We do not know all the reasons these players are told to look elsewhere. Maybe better players we need the spot for, but it could be grade issues. Maybe there is a character flaw that reveals itself over time. Maybe the player does not want to change position. The coaches legally can not say any of that, nor should they. But to just assume it is because of an upgrade always is just taking a guess. The kid on the other hand can say anything they want to make themselves look "injured" in the whole thing.

You should hold yourself to higher standard here and stop assuming you know everything and being so self righteous about this issue. We are not giving out participation trophies, we are giving extremely valuable scolly's here and we should maximize our ROI on these and get the best player available to meet our needs. That said, GBO and I can not wait till the next commitment to come.

Michigan and now Georgia have let recruits go the last two days. Georgia insiders are saying they might drop two more before signing day.

Please stop with this how bad Butch is for dropping a recruit. If you want to play with the big boys of the SEC this will happen. If you have someone in and someone better wants in, this is the way it works.

Alabama has been doing this for a few years now. Hasn't hurt them.

Finish with top 5 or at least top 10 class and it's not a problem at all. However finish lower (say outside of top 15) then it's certainly a problem (whatever the reason). Because big boys in SEC don't finish that low. By the way, there was an article yesterday on ESPN about Urban Meyer and Saban - neither ever finished outside of top 10 in any of their years at Bama, UF, or OSU. Add up their NC's and that should turn off all the noise about 3*'s being good enough and other such nonsense (not that there are no excpetions here and there but as a general rule you got to have mostly 4* with some key 5*s added to make it really special - like Butch had last year).

Legitimate question here...is Arkansas a "big boy"? We always seem to talk about them in that vein.

"After decommitting from the Wolverines' 2016 class, 4-star offensive tackle Erik Swenson revealed to MLive.com's Nick Baumgardner that he only did so after being told there was no longer room for him in the class he had been committed to for more than two years." Just thought I would add this. It happens.

Not in my opinion. Big boys in the SEC are Bama, UT, UGA, LSU, UF, and Auburn (historically probably in this exact order). Next team to consider as candidate for big boy category is more likely A&M than Arkansas (given A&M was one of 2 big boys in old southwest conference that was pretty great back in the day).

Also a new head coach usually means commits are reevaluated and needs reassessed.

Well how about Bama who has won 4 championships recently. Saban does it all the time.
I used those two because they had each dropped a recruit the two days before.

One of reasons I just come here and play around just to see what people are saying. Half the guys just sling **** on the wall and see if it sticks. There are very few on here that actually know any info on recruiting.

It's not ludicrous. It is what will happen. Not just here, but almost everywhere.

It's absolutely ludicrous. Who do you send away? Are we gonna pull a scholarship this close to NSD? I don't think so. Asking Hart to blueshirt and having him decommit brought us bad press. We would be crucified if the same thing happened this close to NSD. Like it or not, numbers are an issue the coaches have to juggle. Sometimes you have to tell a player you want, "Sorry, but there's no room left on the bus." It sucks, but it happens.

All of this is premature to begin with because we have no idea if Daniels even wants to come here.

Any heat we take for that decision will be forgotten by summer.

It won't be forgotten by recruits, by high school coaches, or by college coaches recruiting against us. We don't need the bad press.

After the Marques Ford situation, Tampa area coaches were not happy with UT. There was talk of them not letting us in to recruit. Part of the Larry Scott hire was to help mend fences. The fact he's a damn good coach, too, was an added benefit.

That is so overblown. Ford went to Gibsonton which isn't even in Tampa. We haven't done great with Tampa kids. Regardless of Ford.
