Pat Summitt Steps Down

Wow!! What can you say about the end of a legacy?! Coach Summitt established a program that has received worldwide recognition. She coached Team USA. She's brought SEC & national championships home to Rocky Top. We recognize that all good things must come to an end. This is a sad but good end to her reign. Regardless of what can be said, she clearly brought class & pride to the program. It's sad that illness brought an end to her career. God bless you & your family, Coach Summitt!!!:rock::clapping::clapping::hi::hi:

I have little confidence in Holly. I think the program will fall from top #5 to top # 25 with her as the coach.

I agree. Hope not but seems likely.

this is just a temp hire. warlick will be gone after the 2012-13 season, when we go 16-16.

Can we can this crap for 24 hours and just pay homage to the one of the best Coaches to ever live?

Seriously...let's just honor Coach Summit and save this stuff for later. :hi:

Pat is a loyal person, and I feel pretty certain that she negotiated this deal with Holly getting a shot as HC. In other words, Pat laid down the freakin law. And said here are the terms, deal with it. (of course in a professional and courteous way.)
Very curious to see what kind of $$ this Emeritus position pays. With all the cuts, this should save the AD another million.

I doubt Hart gives a rip about women's bball, and also doubt he wants to tinker with something considered pretty sacred on the Hill. To be honest, I actually am interested in what Holly can do. I care very little about women's bball, but this will at least be interesting. My guess, Holly will not be able to work under the large shadow. The talent is already spreading out.
I don't think people realize how talented this last team was. But for four years the staff failed to gel them into a final four product. No other staff in the country could have got away with the way they blamed the girls. Two top five draft picks. What's even stranger is Kelly Cain being picked. Something was up with her and the other center leaving, beyond injury.

If Holly keeps this team for 3 seasons and then is fired, we will have been in a solid 3 year nose dive. At that point, what quality coach would come aboard and do a re-building process?

If Holly keeps this team for 3 years and wins a NC, then what? There's the other side of your what if!!

Holly has turned down numerous head coaching positions to stay at Tennessee. With Pat's continued involvement, I don't see how you could not give her the chance. Pat can still be all practices and games, and still recruit for UT.

Thank you Pat for your leadership and never giving the program a black eye. You did it the right way and you were the best at it. Any conversations about the best womans coach in any sport in the future, you will be at the top.

This really sucks

Knew this sad day was approaching, but it doesn't diminish that sentiment. Prayers to Pat and her family as they fight this terrible disease. A true legend in life and the very definition of class.

Holly will never be successful in the eyes of Tennessee fans because she will never attain the type success that Pat did. She could routinely keep Tennessee a top-10 team and draw the ire of fans if she doesn't return the program to the Final Four every other year. She is merely a buffer coach for the next few years to bridge the gap between Pat and the next head coach. There was never going to be a search at this time for a long-term successor because nobody worthy of following Pat would want to succeed her.

CPS has been our HC since before I was born, no matter what UT went through you could count on her to maintain excellence.
Can't remember the last time I cried but I will remember today my whole life.
THE greatest women's Coach of all time, in every way.
We love you Pat !!!

I said its sad to be a TN Volunteer....

Today.

As a long time Pat Summitt fan, I have never been more proud of her then I am today. The reality of the situation is this. Pat is an icon not only for women's BB but BB period. That being said, the program has not been on the elite level, the past several years. I applaud Pat for doing the right thing and stepping down now, as opposed to hanging on too long like most coaches and players. My only disappointment, is that they didn't go after Nicki Caldwell as HC, but Pat's loyalty to Holly obviously played a huge role in who replaced her. God Bless you and your family Pat, you will be missed on the sideline, but never forgotten. GO VOLS !!!! :good!:

:lolabove: This!!!! Can you even fathom the idea of being the person to have to follow the winningest coach in college basketball. Nobody can live up to the Pat's legacy. Years will pass and no matter who is the coach they will never be as good or good enough for the Lady Vols.

Lets all be thankful that we got the chance to watch and experience first hand Pat's legacy in the making for the last 38 years. She will truly be missed.
