no. we won't be in the top 25. why on earth did we nor go out and get a coach who could continue to recruit the name players we need to compete. oh well, pat is the only reason i followed u t women's basketball. with her gone now, i'm done with them.

Done with them? What an ignorant statement. What did they do to you? Pat is retiring. It's not like she was fired.

And the claim that they won't be top 25 s beyond ridiculous. The Tennessee name alone is enough to keep them afloat in the short term.

There was never going to be a search, never going to be a "big name" coach hired, etc. No one wants to replace the greatest ever and Tennessee doesn't want the negativity of being turned down by numerous coaches. This is a tenuous situation that will take several years to fully play out, esp with Pat hanging around as coach emeritus. You think Kim Mulkey wants to come and attempt to put her stamp on a program with Pat still sitting behind the bench and actively participating in game plans, practice, etc ? Or Matt Mitchell? Auriemma? You think they want to follow a legend and be compared with her at every turn?

The answer is no. Holly will serve well as a buffer between Pat and the next coach. She will provide a nice transition period that won't be the complete shock of going from what we as fans have known for 38 years to something completely different.

Nope sorry, dumbest statement ever by VN member.

Should never be forgotten an deserves to be right along with UT IE 95 statement. And just like 95 he doesn't admit that it was dumb, he tries to justify it.

Well be the bigger "man" and stop acting like a kid. You are simply looking for a reaction so you can rub it in his face, which is why you brought it up not once, but twice. It's something you do quite a bit. You have this troubling desire to be celebrated for being correct. Just let being right be enough. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but its really old and it does nothing for the board. I like what you bring to the board, but it would be nice if you'd focus on your positive contributions and less on your desire to be right all the time. No one here is perfect and we are all wrong about some things.

he won't. kid is a pain in the ass.

Please take your girly internet fight somewhere else.

Now is hardly the time to claim the women's basketball program dead. If you wanted to be a bandwagon fan you should go cheer for Geno.

Honestly, I don't expect Holly to be around for too long either. My guess is Tyler Summit will take the reigns at some point in the distant future. But I'm still gonna hope the best for Holly and still cheer for the lady Vols like a true fan.

But annnyways, good luck to Pat Summit. UT and women's basketball owe her a debt of gratitude.

He made th comment originally about USM trying to be an a$$ to me and make me look dumb iirc. That's why I bring it up, not to just prove him wrong, but he made that dumb of a statement trying to correct me.

Then he goes and is now bashing the women's department basically saying they're going down the drain. I mean c'mon, how many dumb a$$ statements can this dude possibly make.

I get what you're saying though, so I'll drop it, but IMO, this guy brings nothing what do ever to the board. Constant negativity, followed by ridiculous and idiotic statements that have no logical explanation. I'm done now.

I don't think Tyler is doing anything with the Lady Vols program anytime soon. He wants to broaden his horizons away from this environment, and he has a lot to learn and a lot of experience to gain before taking over a program as big as UT. I doubt if he ever takes over at UT, but if he does, it won't be anytime soon.

I get it. I am familiar with his comment about USM. I thought it was silly at the time too. I just see no benefit in needling him two months after the fact to get a reaction. Some posters will hang themselves if given enough rope, figuratively speaking. They don't need help tying the noose.

doesn't matter. he's on my ignore list. tryed to like him as i do everyone on here, but you just can't make mistakes on here and not get called out for it. i wasn't even the one that said anything till another poster said it about warlick. i was just agreeing with the poster. i don't think i'm no more negative than a lot of posters on here.

this is just terrible to hear,i knew it was coming, but was hoping it would be another year or so coming, she is a legend as a basketball coach and a great person all around, she has bled orange for many years, she has led the Woman's program to be the best in the nation,we will miss you greatly Coach Pat Summit

TBA should be renamed The Summit, while she can still understand what it means to us fans, and the SEC trophy would be a good idea also, she will be missed for sure

and it is just in poor damn taste,to be *****ing about CHW,while the greatest coach in womens basketball has to step down, because of this terrible disease ,at least save it for another thread,no need for it here

I have little confidence in Holly. I think the program will fall from top #5 to top # 25 with her as the coach.

due to a divorce my daughter grew up in michigan. several years back she was here visiting. the lady vols were playing at ole miss. after the game we stood by the team bus for quite a while to see the players and coaches. the ONLY one who took the time to do anything was warlick.she stopped and signed a hat my daughter was holding. she has a special place in me for that. she may never be summit but her devotion to ut merits the chance and our support.

Just had a thought. If this news has rocked Vol Nation like this, can you imagine the Lady Vols? While much has been said about Coach Summitt, I'm sure this news has also rocked the young women on the team and the coaching staff. And to the poster who suggested TBA be renamed "The Summitt"--agree wholeheartedly 100% yeh! What a way for her to see her life and valuable contribution to UT forever remembered forever.

No confidence in Holly based on what? Thats what I don't get about these negative thoughts on Holly. She's always been under Pat, so that means she's learned a great deal about what it takes. Players come to UT, top players, because of the great connection she makes with them on the recruiting trail...I've heard that numerous times. Yes, its about Pat, but they come here because of Holly aswell imo.

She needs a chance to prove her HEAD coaching ability (not coaching by committee as it was this year).

Even though I am a Gator fan, I've always been a fan of Coach Summit. She is a class act. She runs a great program and, of course, is a fantastic coach. You don't stay at an SEC school as long as she has without being a phenominal person, teacher, leader and coach.

I'm sorry to hear of her having to step down due to this terrible disease. I wish her all the best.

Best wishes for your future Pat. WOW !! thank you for the memories. Thank you for the outstanding leadership you showed to the ladies who wore orange. Thank you for being a class act. Thank you for your dedication to the Lady Vols and the university. Thank you for what 'you" did for ladies basketball. I still remember when it was 3 ladies on offense and 3 on defense and you couldnt cross half court. ( yep I'm old ) BUt I can't remember who the coach before you was. It's a sad day for the vol nation, but please enjoy your life and live it to the fullest. You deserve it. GOD Bless you Pat Head Summitt. Wouldn't want to have to fill your shoes.
