Patriots fire Mayo

I can't blame the Pats for moving on from Mayo when Vrabel is available. I don't blame Mayo for the poor season, but he did operate outside the norm and people are gonna always freak out over that if you aren't winning.

I love Bill Simmons because he's built a cool media empire and he has pretty solid show, but his fandom is intolerable sometimes. He hammered the Pats under on wins total, and then spent the whole year losing his mind about Mayo. It was so obnoxious. You can't be mad at the coach every week when you expected to lose not knowing anything about the coach. And last week he was pre-emptively freaking out about the possibility of losing their #1 pick, which they would have undoubtedly traded back for much-needed assets. The fact that Milton, another Vol, is the one who led the Pats to victory is just a chef's kiss.

Tuning into Bill's show now to hear the meltdown.

RE: Simmons is crying that Mayo didn't start Maye game 1 when Simmons was begging the Pats not to start Maye at the beginning of the year (because of OL problems and early opponents). LOL

He was handed a bad roster and impossible job (in terms of expectations of success) but then he did nothing to win anybody over at all.

Kraft fired Belichek, found his QB, faced an easier schedule, and then ended up with the same record as he had with Belicheck (only because the Bills handed them that last victory). Kraft is so insecure about Belicheck, there is no way he's not freaking out about this season.

If they get Vrabel, then firing Mayo was the right move, I'm sorry to say. It's not "fair" to Mayo, but you gotta do for your franchise.
I agree with that to some extent. Except for the fact that they knew it ended up this way before it started. Outside of some miracle there is no way New England did well at al this year. Their schedule looked easy preseason but in reality it was one of the harder ones. They would have gotten the 1st or second pick had they lost to the bills based on SoS. Secondly the Bills didn't give them anything. yes they rested their starters.. so did the pats and pretty much every team not playing for a wild card or seeding.

The pats knew whoever was the coach this year had an impossible job.... instead of putting their 'guy' in place they let Mayo eat the L. then booted him.. he should have been given at least another year or two.

Mayo is a NFL person. I'd be shocked to see him in college. And Vrabel about to be the Pats coach I bet?
I've heard a couple of different pundits - Dan Patrick, Cowherd, Quinn, Lavar Arrington, and others say Vrabel to NE as HC, McDaniels as OC, DC up for grabs or possibly current coach / coordinator in the playoffs.

Would surprise me A LOT if Mayo comes to the college game, although the Bellicheck at UNC story intrigues me...could Jerod get his feet wet in the college ranks at UNC?

NFL places for him to land would possibly be as LB / Co-DC somewhere like San Diego, Denver, Tampa Bay, Indy, etc...places that seem to have an okay DC, but are looking for "that next guy".

Don't understand the point of promoting a guy to his 1st year as HC then when it's a bad year (after finishing exactly the same with Belicheck) you can him. Looking forward to the Pats sucking.
If Dan Campbell gets fired like a Jerod Mayo after his first year we would never get a chance to see the Detroit be the team that they are today.

Titans have so many holes to fill. Hopefully they can trade back for a boatload of picks, and fet a c veteran QB.
I don't see the Titans trading back since they have the #1. They'll take a QB or Travis Hunter.
Which vet QB would you want them to pick up?
Speaking of FA I'd like to see Trey come home but TN is where go for your career to die LOL
