Paul Chryst fired at Wisconsin

I doubt it. I think they will find it harder than they think to get someone to take that job.

His hand picked successor isn't saying no. It will be whoever has been a loyal OC or DC leading up to his retirement

He's never really had a loyal OC, and the last DC he had who he'd actually consider to be the HC was Kirby. Can you imagine what the reaction would be if they hired Pete Golding to replace Saban? lol

It's probably a guy who isn't even on anybody's radar screen yet. The obvious choices (Dabo, Kirby) I think are set at their current jobs. Before he took the Miami job, I would have said Mario Cristobal, but even he's back home now and making $8m/year. I don't know if he'd go to Alabama at this point either.

I'm sure that will be the way his replacement is sold, just like during our coaching searches we only ever offered the guy we hired.

Another thing to keep in mind here is that Wisconsin and Nebraska have become bitter rivals since NU joined the B1G. With both of them being traditional powers even though it's been a good while for the Huskers both schools are going to try to make the bigger splash hire than the other in this search.

Will Wisconsin go after Mark Stoops?
He would do good there

Best potential move for Stoops that I’ve heard suggested. His brand of football would go over well there. Wisconsin has a higher ceiling as a program while also being in a weaker conference. Perhaps most compelling, it’s a step up in program potential without a massive step up in expectations. Only question is would the money be right.

His style would be good up there and I think Stoops has some good recruiting ties to the Midwest.

Yeah well we always have geographical advantage in regards to recruiting.

Wisconsin isn't necessarily a hotbed of talent. They are going to fade into next Nebraska

Dude, I'm in no way shape or form a Wiscy fan but don't insult them.

Nebraska is in a hell all their own due to both demographic and conference shifts.

Wisconsin is cold as hell, but I have spent enough time there to know it is "nice". There's plenty of things to do-especially if you're an outdoorsy type. Honestly, if you did away with the temp differences and the accent you would think you're in East Tennessee up there. They are booming up there also-especially in the Fox River delta (Appleton/GB areas).

Nebraska is just nothing. A flat piece of earth with few redeeming qualities unless you happen to be a farmer.

I've spent fair share of time in Wisconsin, would never insult the state. But the football program is on its way to being the next once has been program to fall into irrelevancy

The Wisconsin deal keeps getting stranger by the day. Apparently the AD setup a meeting with the coach to discuss things and had NOTHING to do with his future. Less than 2 hours later the coach who has had a very good record at UW is fired. What the hell was said in that meeting?? Wisconsin better hope they hit a home run with this hire or they'll have their own Bo Pelini situation.
