In the last AD financials that were released a few months back, baseball is losing approx. $10 million...Would be good to somehow close this gap...

Given what is happening in general with college sports - baseball needs to become financially profitable or at least break even or we may have bigger issues than just keeping TV happy.

Baseball is safe even though it isn’t profitable at the schools. The CWS makes money on tv. It’s a big 3 American sport. Eventually it’ll probably be a 64 team league like football and basketball, but it isn’t going anywhere. It’s probably the only in the red sport that isn’t though.

They have increased revenue considerable over last year. I think we can afford what they cost.
If my memory is correct (and that can be a bad thing), baseball revenues were around $2.5 mil...With the increase in seating and increase in ticket prices, if you double revenues, you're looking at $5.5 mil at the most...Expenses are around $12.5 mil...Got a ways to go to breakeven, but still TV and staff are worth it...

Almost no school is turning a profit in baseball. If that was required to make SEC and P5 baseball sustainable, then we’d have maybe 5 teams playing this sport every year. Football pays for basically every other sport not named basketball to exist.

I think we should make Elander the highest paid assistant coach in baseball. He is going to get opportunities to be the man at other schools. I say pay him enough as an assistant to stay until at minimum an SEC school comes with a a head coach offer. He is way more valuable than many understand. He is our hitting coach, catching coach and recruiting coordinator. Wears a lot of crucial hats.

I hope you are right - I do enjoy baseball and softball as well.

I would relax and assume that is the case. I would also relax regarding Elander. Pretty sure AD DW can snare talent should Coach E get an opportunity he can’t refuse.
100% frank is staying here till he’s ready to fish every day. I believe Elander is on the very short list for an SEC head coach gig. But I have no worries that Tony has a plan in place. He identifies talent in players and coaches very well.

Has anyone seen a breakdown of what typical college baseball program expenses are?

What's the biggest expense? Travel and road? I'll bet there are some surprises in there for the casual fan.

He already makes more than several SEC HC's. I think Frank's days are numbered. It has to be tough when your family lives halfway across the US at his age and with his success.

This should put to bed anyone from other fan bases that thinks Tennessee won’t give tony what he needs to sustain this

I think he wants a national championship with Tony. If he can make that happen, wouldn't be shocked to see him retire afterwards.

Here’s a link that has the report. I don’t recall reading what baseball lost, so interested people can peruse it.

Interesting that we lost 10 million. Being a long time football fan but only a recent (2022) basevols fan and not sure how baseball works help me with some questions if you will?

1. Do we charge more or less than other SEC teams charge to get in the gate?
2. With the renovation of LNS (added seats) shouldn't that help bring more paying people into the gate?
3. Do we split the money with the SEC for regionals and Super Regionals or do we keep it all? If split what percentage?

Whatever we do we gotta keep TV at Tennessee. I know Arkansas is coming after him after their coach retires. Their not even trying to hide that fact. Sometimes going home is a big thing to a lot of people. GBO

1. Except for some SRO, season ticket holder’s account for all seats. Sold in advance.

2. The renovation costs money. I’m sure the donation might be less than football, but to have a guaranteed seat…if I was a single man, maybe. The days of walking up to the gate and getting a seat are over, for the foreseeable future. I hate it, but success comes with a price…a wise man said.

3. I don’t know how that works exactly. I assume it works like all the other NCAA tournaments, scale and all aside.

He. Ain’t. Leaving.

Cost is probably annualized and spread over the years of construction. At some point that cost will drop off.

I will stick where I’ve been for years. I’ve seen “the we lost 10 million last year”…flip that coin and figure in the debt for additional seats. If we go back to not that good….thus…He ain’t leaving.

For the longest time…really long time…nobody thought college baseball would even be televised, much less every single game. I’ll be the first to say we were late to the game.

All you have to know is this forum. Most of it’s because we’re good right now, but investments in the future ain’t black jack.

I think the majority of Texas fans are eager for their coach to be shown the door. Unsurprisingly, I’ve seen more than a few drop Tony’s name as the top replacement target—almost like it’d be a foregone conclusion that he’d take the job. They haven’t even joined the conference yet and I’m already nauseated by their unearned sense of entitlement.

I’m not overly concerned that he’d leave. He’s getting a pretty new stadium, he got a nice salary bump, the fans are crazy for the program, he’s having no problems attracting talent, and he’s doing A LOT of winning. He’s building his own thing here, and I think he’s also loyal—Tennessee gave him his first shot at a head coaching gig.

Even so, I agree that we should be prepared to do what’s necessary to keep him around. I can see both Texas and Arkansas angling for him, but there probably aren’t many (if any) other programs that can even put a package together that he’d consider. If Tony left, I doubt we’d ever find another one like him. Keep him in Knoxville by any means necessary.

I know we are a football school, and that is White’s top priority for pleasing the fanbase, but I do think it’s fairly clear that Tony has become universally loved in this fanbase and if White ever watched Tony walk and didn’t basically give him anything he would want to stay, he’d see a pretty harsh reaction from the fanbase. I think White knows that when other schools come calling he’ll have to do whatever it takes to keep him.

I’m with you though. Tony is 1 off-season away from his shiny new toy of a stadium being finished and he’s got immense resources here. I don’t see why he would leave.

I expect Kingston to get the boot at South Carolina. They have no shot at Tony but Elander will be a top target imo.

Texas in all likelihood fires Pierce as well assuming they don’t miraculously get out of their regional. They will make a strong push for Tony. I’m confident Danny White will do anything and everything to keep him. I also don’t think Tony would entertain leaving at this point.
