So, my old man's friend came up with an idea that would help ensure that we get a higher % of more informed votes from citizens that really do care.

You send every registered voter $20 before election day. When it comes time to vote, charge $20 a head.

Thoughts?

Note: the constitution is properly amended to provide for this scenario

Absolutely not. Have you been in private discussions with NEOCON?

Let's just go all out and bring back the poll tax.

Oh hell yeah!

But $20 is way too low.

I'd say start at a grand for the right to vote and then 100 for every actual poll you vote in.

Qutie honestly I just think we should end women's sufferage and be done with it. Let everything else fix itself.

Poll Taxes are unconstitutional

Also who are "more informed voters"

I said more informed "votes", not voters.

You don't think if a vote came with an opportunity cost of $20 that it would likely be more informed?

You can properly amend the constitution in this hypothetical.

They're not even close to the same thing. The poll tax favors the rich. This doesn't. This favors those who value their vote.

People that don't value their vote would take the money and run. They would be CHOOSING to do so. Honestly, you want to count the votes of people who don't really value their own vote in the first place?

Therefore, they would probably impose a tax on the $20 to vote.

Awful idea.

Huh? A tax is not part of this hypothetical.

So do you have a reason why you think it's an awful idea? Or was the additional hypothetical what led you to believe the original is a bad idea?

You think this favors the rich, but the current system increasingly favors the poor. Why don't any of you have a problem with that?

and just where are these billions of dollars coming from?

We could cut about 66 of the 67 federal financial education programs (they're such effective programs they can't even tell us what their combined budget is).

Trust me, you set the price to vote at $1000 and 100$ for each poll you vote in and the dichotomy of voters totally changes. The country would also get back on track.

$20 is too low because every illegal pay scheme in the world would pop up and 20 is too low to track. 1000 is an easier number to track and prove that someone had the means to pay it and actually did. 20 would cause alot of voter fraud.
