Pearl Has Zero Credibility Now

Usually an institution will keep disciplinary issues secret and only tell part of their disciplinary decisions, especially when they are hoping that the NCAA will accept their actions with no further sanctions. No doubt Pearl had other disciplinary action taken and the school just refuses to let any one be aware of the total disciplinary package. Makes perfect sense.

i'm not dumb or inbred. you didn't say go further, you said BP would win a NC this year. I'll take the field, you take BP and if you win i won't ever post on this board again

another coaching search and an AD search in the next year might just tear a hole in the fabric of TN space-time ..

Guess what? Pearl got punished for it too. He is getting 1.5 million less over the next 5 years. His assistants get a 1/4th of their salary taken away. Penalties assessed, nothing further is probably going to come out of it... move on.

Care to revisit?

Do you honestly think Pearl would have owned up to it if he had been caught? Hell no

Are you reading the News Sentinel article or the Memphis Commercial Appeal article? They conflict. The Sentinel states that the "lie" occurred when the NCAA asked BP if he knew the location of the photo that they were showing him. He initiated the second meeting with the NCAA to provide them with more info on the photo. In the Memphis paper, that author speculates that the NCAA asked specifically about the recruits at Pearl's house and they initiated the 2nd meeting to show Pearl the photo. Both stories can't be correct. And it just so happens that Pearl is in a recruiting battle over a highly touted Memphis player.

Probably not, because you're on Gameday 3 times this season and ESPN will be sure to mention it everytime.

You are absolutely correct. This will likely not be finalized until the end of this season which means that any post-season ban would likely go into effect for next season and beyond.

All this does make you wonder, after the experience with Illinois, where he turned in a cheater and got branded the bad guy, if that didn't change Pearl, afterwards he decided to join "the dark side" so to speak.

When BP turned in the IL asst coach he handed the NCAA a tape of the wire he wore when talking to Deon Thomas, because he didn't want to cheat. What everyone seems to forget is that the NCAA concluded the tapes were "spliced" together by BP and IL asst Collins was found not guilty. IL was punished for lack of institutional control, not paying players or anything else BP accused them of doing. Interesting notes of that case. The current SEC commish, MS, was IL's lawyer during the investigation. BP was shunned by all schools and coaches and sent packing to UW-Milwaukee for 13 years until TN gave him a second chance at a big time program 5 years ago. BP lied then like he just lied to the NCAA. Maybe the NCAA will think the punishment TN already gave him and his staff is enough, but maybe not, bans are possible.

The members of the basketball team were driving with drugs, guns and booze, the only thing missing was a dead hooker in the trunk.

The football team has a bar brawl and robs people at a gas station.

The University is getting embarrassed by the actions of their athletic dept. I say fire Hamilton, Pearl and get some class back at UT.

Well, you're taking it a little too far. No one has to shut up about Calipari. Pearl lied about the number of phone calls made to recruits. How does he lose credibility because of that? This is just ignorant.

no they asked pearl if recruits (juniors in HS) had ever been to his house. he said no. they then produced a pictures of recruits at his house and asked him what the picture was of and he said he didnt' know.

cheaters

Pearl has amnesia from an old war wound....so memory comes and goes....he finally got it back and tried to explain all this to the NCAA....but, as typical of that group...they demonstrated their narrow minds.
