I realize it should come down to x's and o's but lets be realistic. Pearl's attitude and personality are contagious. UT has always been a football school and we would be kidding ourselves to think that just any good coach could recruit and have the effect on a fan base that Pearl has brought to Knoxville. He has brought more excitement to the basketball program than we have ever seen in two lifetimes. We are now on the map! Without him we fall back into mediocrity. Please keep bleeding orange Bruce! UT.......pay him whatever it takes because he is the reason the bb team is finally making a profit and causing excitement among the Tennessee faithful.

Bruce Pearl deserves more money and Mike H. needs to do whatever he can to try and keep him here. If teams like Alabama are going to pay Grant 2 mil, we're going to have to step up and pay the man. Just do it, Mike.

i read something just a minute ago, i think on govolsxtra by Griff, that said Pearl's contract doesn't have any clause that would prevent Memphis from contacting hm even if they didn't ask permission.....

There's too many conflicting things out there right now. Just wait a couple of hours for it all to play out.

I never said that I wanted him gone. I took exception to your assertion that people who criticism him are morons and have never played basketball. I have yet to meet anyone above criticism. Perhaps you have.

I can't blame Pearl for wanting to leave. He resurrected the program at UT and some of the fans still slam him.

Of course.....Pearl needs to recruit players based on his system...not just because their top 10 recruits.If he does this the team will succeed,not lay an egg like this year.

That there are better coaches than Pearl available is undeniable. To think otherwise is being either ignorant or obstinate.

The question in my mind is why doesn't Memphis go after these coaches?

Easy. If they get Pearl, then they get a quality coach AND hurt us in the process.

I have already watched my #1 rival take a coach from my #2 rival. I don't think I'd be able to take losing our coach to said #2 rival.

but they're both going to bid against each other using my tax dollars!

how are they not....both state schools....both state funded

If UT is forced to extend and give Pearl a raise because of Memphis's offer
(also from my tax dollars) I'd say they're bidding against each other

UT's Athletic Department is funded solely on donations. No state funding is accepted. So, again, this discussion is ridiculous. Not sure about Memphis's Athletic Department. But the bulk of the money for the bball coaches' salrary is coming from the FedEx guy.
