Pearl's Already Gone: The Exit Strategy Hypothesis

Thought this deserved a bump, considering MH's comments on WNML, earlier today:

"It’s funny, people think the athletic director makes these kinds of decisions on his own accord," Hamilton said. "It’s just not true. At a place like Tennessee, you don’t have that authority, first of all."

Hamilton is the business manager of the AD. The personnel decisions on the products the AD puts out is managed by committee that Hamilton is a part of. Politics in its purest form.

Suing UT would be brilliant. Look how much going after their former employers has helped Jim O'Brien and Mike Leach.

And with no contract and a mountain of evidence showing cause for his termination, what could possibly be the basis of a lawsuit anyway?

Like I said, at this point what does he have to lose? And not necessarily suing, just being paid more not to show up on Rome and PTI every other day.

Let him show up there every day if he wants. That'll let America see that on top of being a lying phony, he's a vindictive crybaby. Have at it, Bruce.

It goes without saying that any such suit would be beyond frivolous. I was addressing the PR fallout.

Wrongful termination. I'm sure Pearl would be happy with a settlement in the 4 to 6 range. It's been done before.

That's the kind of thing I am referring to, not Pearl suing but just dragging the thing out aand making a spectacle of it post-UT. Doesn't mean his words will be valid but claims don't need validity to get all over TV. I.E. Charlie Sheen. All I am saying is UT should do all it can to end it cordially, not because Pearl has any leverage, purely as an act of grace. I don't have a prob with a small pmt, but we don't owe it. Whatever makes it go away the quickest so we can keep the program rolling, is fine by me.

Just like they did Gillispie?

I know nothing about Gillespie's case. But, Pearl's an at-will employee that works at the discretion of the UTAD. They don't even have to furnish a reason for his termination.

If you're talking about the termination of his contract, just take a glance at the termination letter sent to Pearl. Tell me what possible strategy they would have for beating that; Pearl admitted to all the wrongdoing that voided the contract.

What case would Pearl have ie? Serious question.

He is working in good faith. Has the AD on record with support that he would remain employed regardless of NCAA punishment. First time offender. He's served a punishment from the school and league - done everything they've asked. Has an unsigned contract. Agreements with both parties.....etc, etc.

There is no shortage of lawyers out there that would jump to grandstand on behalf of the victim Pearl and take on UT/NCAA.

Pearl has such a strong integrity, I'm sure everyone would buy every thing he had to say. He doesn't deserve anything from UT.

You do understand that an unsigned contract is not an agreement?

Gillespie had no contract with UK. He was terminated for a clear gap in how the rules and responsibilities overseeing the program were viewed. He walked away with a nice settlement.

Pearl was wrong, admitted it, and suffered the punishment set from the university. They are now wrongfully terminating him after he met all their demands.

Just playing the Pearl advocate here. Based on the evidence he should be fired - but it's not as easy as just telling him to pack his crap and get out.

Yeah, Charlie Sheen's rants are really kiling CBS. I bet they wish they hadn't fired him.

Percentage of population that watches TV that could tell you Sheen was on CBS: maybe 50%

Percentage of population that watches college basketball that could tell you Pearl is the UT coach: 100%
