It's beginning to appear more and more that Pearl will not be TN's coach when this situation comes to a resolution. Anyone have any information or insights that might indicate an outcome one way or another?

No information or insight, just opinion. CBP will be more than fine, he will continue to be very successful. This is no hill for that climber!

As I sit in court and read this I really want to laugh... But the judge is an auburn fan (former player) and I doubt he'd appreciate my disruption.

However, Bruce is going nowhere, at least not until little Pearl has graduated. Who cares if his rep is "tainted", he is the best chance to bring a natty to Tennessee that we may ever have. Pearl is a top 5 coach don't get it twisted. I know several UNC fans whove said that when Roy leaves they would love a chance to snag Bruce.

I think you're wrong on this one.

UT is renegotiating a long term contract right now with Bruce Pearl.

Wes Rucker:

"Several people at UT, including a few today, told me Pearl won't be fired unless UT thinks it has no choice."

"Again, though, understand UT knew every bit of this(the NCAA infractions) in early September and sent Pearl a contract earlier this month."

Meaning - he isn't going anywhere unless the NCAA bans him from coaching.

imo, if pearl wasn't going to be the coach, then the university would have never offered him another contract

I hope he remains our coach for a long time. Yes, he has a big mark against him, but he's paying the price for what he did. His contract being terminated was something the University had to do as a part of the stipulations in it which he violated. He says he's not going to resign, and I hope that is true. I think it the NCAA investigation results could play a part on whether he is fired.

I found one statement by Hamilton very interesting though. “It doesn’t change our stance that we want Bruce Pearl to be our basketball coach for MONTHS and years to come,’’ Hamilton told the News Sentinel on Thursday.

His son being here has nothing to do with him staying at UT or the NCAA situation.

No he is not.

Yeah, most all major basketball programs will be trying hard to hire Pearl away from UT now.

He lied to the NCAA about taking a recruit to his house. So tainted in this clean, clean world of college basketball recruiting!

How can we be terminating his contract and extending it at the same time? Is the "terminating contract" just until this is over and then they negotiate a new one or are they working on a new one anyway?

From the letter and everything else that has come out, it appears that UT and compliance know every detail of what has happened behind the scenes.

If they were going to fire Pearl they would have done it a long time ago. UT does not wish to fire Pearl that is why they have suspended him and taking some money away so that NCAA won't force them to fire him.

Only way he gets fired is if NCAA mandates it.

UT fans, including myself, are starting to realize the pros and cons of having a successfull basketball team in the NCAA.

Yeah, all D1 coaches have to deal with lying to the NCAA investigators. He's just doing what all coaches do. Great excuse that continues to thrive on these posts.

love how every five minutes on the bottom line on espn its "PEARL: coaching without a contract right now, could be fired at anytime" ESPN stirring up trouble like the situation does on jersey shore!

So if BP gets suspended...who runs the team?

If he gets suspended, that falls under the category of having to fire him and his staff. I'd always wondered if Jones would be a good fit if Pearl ever left us for a Kansas or North Carolina...but since they are all a part of this, we'll have to just get our distance.
Just read a blog that Josh Ward retweeted, and I'm feeling more and more like IF he makes it through this season, it will definitely be his last at Tennessee.

IMO, Bruce wants to stay and Tennessee wants him to stay. Only way he doesn't is if NCAA finds something out so bad UT has no choice but to get rid of him. If he were to leave on his own, he has too much baggage now to get another job as good as this one. Don't think UT will let him go unless they have to; who else are they going to get to take the job better then Pearl. I believe UT re-signs Pearl to a new contract with clauses in it covering their butts if he were to get his nose dirty again.

Well, we did terminate his contract. Isn't that enough to satisfy the NCAA? The fact that we are going to sign him to another long term contract is not the issue. We did terminate his contract because of cause due to the NCAA actions. How could the NCAA not understand that we did in effect terminate him because of this situation? How could they possibly impose any sanctions. We just decided after terminating him to hire him back.

That first part was sarcastic. The second part was serious. Pearl is a Saint, and a top 5 coach.
