Pearl's future

Don't kid yourselves. Bruce Pearl will be coaching somewhere as long as he wants, even after this situation. The taint is only in the eyes of those who would like to see the Vols regress to their old Buzz days for whatever reason. There have been several coaches who have done much worse things who had pretty good runs afterwards. Eddie Sutton comes to mind and currently there's Tim Floyd. Bruce will be coaching and winning somewhere, the question is, will UT allow themselves to be bullied, by the media and those who hate UT basketball, into terminating the most successful men's basketball coach they have ever had.

I really feel sorry for you if you really believe this.

I really feel sorry for you if you really believe this.

Feel whatever you want, I could care less what you think. I was just stating facts. Here's a flash for you and those like you, the world doesn't revolve around you or what you think.

Loyalty is a two way street, there are times my wife does things I disagree with but I don't divorce her over it because I love her and she's family. Ever time my dog doesn't do what I want I don't get a gun and shoot him. I'm sure they would tell you the same about me. Being a Vol is either a family or it's not. Those of us, who believe in once a Vol always a Vol, have to give Bruce the benefit of the doubt. If it's just a game and doesn't really mean anything then continue to harp on how terrible it is that he lied about nothing.

Of course, there are always the self righteous among us who have been perfect their entire life and would never do anything wrong.

How could Pearl be part of my family? I'm not Jewish.

No insight, but his future is tainted regardless of the outcome.

Exactly....may as well fire him right now...I like Pearl and am sad to hear and see this kind of stuff...but you cant let that guy stay here and continue coaching...come on...the damage is done...only thing to do is cut ties and move on...and Fire Mike Hamilton while your at it...

I think you're wrong on this one.

UT is renegotiating a long term contract right now with Bruce Pearl.

Wes Rucker:

"Several people at UT, including a few today, told me Pearl won't be fired unless UT thinks it has no choice."

"Again, though, understand UT knew every bit of this(the NCAA infractions) in early September and sent Pearl a contract earlier this month."

Meaning - he isn't going anywhere unless the NCAA bans him from coaching.

 LONG LIVE THE PEARL ERA!!!

I think that's too far. From what I'm hearing, it depends on the severity of the penalties by the NCAA. I don't think it would take an all out ban.

imo, if pearl wasn't going to be the coach, then the university would have never offered him another contract

Exactley! He doesn't want to leave and the University wants him to stay but they need to make sure that the NCAA thinks they are punshing him and taking the situation(s) serious. CBP wants to stay here and his wife is from Sevier Co. so in the end, after a hard slap on the hand, CBB will remain and all will be well in Vol land (as long as he doens't screw up again).

Yeah, all D1 coaches have to deal with lying to the NCAA investigators. He's just doing what all coaches do. Great excuse that continues to thrive on these posts.

No, he's doing far less than what many other coaches do. Even if Pearl is doing worse, this particular issue is microscopic potatoes in the world of basketball recruiting. If you want Pearl fired over this, you also want a basketball program that struggles to get to to .500.

I've noticed you respond to mine and other members' posts with stuff completely out of left field. You may want to read the posts you quote before typing. Just a suggestion.

So CBP's big crime is he misled a NCAA investigator who has the sole job is trying to find some dirt on him because he took a prospect to his home for a bbq? Sounds kinda low key compared to some other SEC coaches problems. Its not like he had someone take a players test to get him in school or changed a grade to make a player eligible or recruited a "pro" player and CBP is the one the NCAA is hounding?

actually he lied about knowingly breaking the rules and evidently told the recruits it was a violation and to keep quiet. Little different than misleading some guy on a witch hunt

It would be different if John Calipari did it, but it was Bruce Pearl. He deserves a pass, because without it Buzz Peterson will run the program into the ground and The Dude will abide in shame.

You are absolutely correct. If Cal was in Pearl's situation, these same posters would be screaming bloody murder and calling for his head. However, since it's Pearl he gets a free pass because no one else could possibly coach the basketball team and have any level of success.

My posts make perfect sense. You may or may not agree with them, and that is fine. You either obviously have a problem understanding people's points or are just throwing out dumb assumptions. I don't know, but it is clear that my previous post you quoted was not declaring that all coaches lie to the NCAA. Keep reaching though.

Fact is you blindly support Pearl and try to justify it by claiming all coaches cheat and Pearl isn't as bad as others. I think I can understand your points very clearly.

No, I've recognized every thing that's come out publicly that he's done and don't think it's that big of a deal in the whole scheme of things. I've been very clear about it, yet you continue to throw out nonsense like "you blindly support Pearl". You obviously do not understand.

I would have no problem with Cal lying to the NCAA about having recruits to his house. I agree that our fans would be all over it though.

I've seen not one post where someone said Pearl deserves a pass.

Apparently I don't understand. You don't think this is a big deal? What would it take for you to consider it a big deal? We are going to have some level of NCAA sanctions that will very likely include post-season bans. If that isn't a big deal, I'm not sure what would be a big deal. You don't think lying to the NCAA is a big deal. Just wait till this is over and see if you still feel the same way.

The point is, the UT fanbase is hypocritical as all hell.
